    In the old days a teaspoon of AJAX was a remedy for that.

    Never tried it myself and wouldn't recommend it.

    Bon-Ami was the go, Ajax was considered too coarse.

    That's really old school, I haven't heard that since I was an apprentice!

    And it makes me shudder thinking about it!

    Not if the engine didn't get a good loading up in the first few km, and chrome rings are hard.

    A decent Group III or mineral 10w-30 for 5,000km wouldn't hurt.
