Does that light still work with the existing light timer circuit? Obviously LED so less current draw and better overall light?
What about the red functionality... do you find it a useful feature or just a 'look what I've got' mod?

I'm red green colourblind... so not sure if it will work on me
Haven't used one of those for years. These are great replacements, bit more costly though. Streamlight sidewinder.

I have the mud lights, easier on the eyes and the white light shows up every corner of the Defender.

Essentially you are just dimming the light. Same deal with fox hunting with a red light. Just dims it's a little. The red spectrum can't be totally isolated by a filter or light.

I said doesn't kill, not totally preserves. Any artificial light source at night is going to negatively impact your night vision. Red does so to a much lesser degree.
Whereas a yellow or white light leaves you just about blind.

From what I was taught.... red, green or blue.... it doesn't matter that much. All help preserve your night vision because you are using mostly the cones in your eyes for the colours.

By not using white light you are not 'blinding' the rods in your eyes. Rods detect light & dark (shades of grey) which is what we mostly use for night vision.

Mind you, all three colours have their problems when map reading at night:

Red - you can't see the contour lines
Green - you can't see the wooded areas
Blue - you can't see the creeks & rivers

    Cheers,

    Pete
