The new 4.5l Duramax looks interesting.
It has a 72* bank angle and the turbo (and exhaust and catalyst and particulate filter) is in the V.
Inlet ports are cast into the outer side of the heads, directly above the valves, and the inlet manifold becomes the rocker cover.
It is designed to fit anywhere the petrol smallblock V8 fits.

    310 HP, 520 lb/ft of torque.

And before anyone whinges that it's a GM engine, there's a fair bit of (mostly ?) Isuzu in all the Duramax's.

That would be me. I have the 6.6 LTR LBZ and Allison 6 speed auto mounted in my 130 but have yet to sort out my spud shaft yet. Shifting from VIC to S.A in the last few weeks has slowed progress.

Good to see someone shoving the new 3.6 TDV8 in a defender. I basically went for the Duramax because they are more readliy available than rover v6 or V8 diesels and cause everyone said that ia 6.6LTR would not fit!

My tdi300 130 is not the exactly the eastiest of vehicles to service. I do all my own servicing , modifications, maintenance so if it is a bit tight under the bonnet with the Duramax i can live with it! I am remote mounting the oil and fuel filters so it will be easier to maintain than the TDI300. Any vehicle is a compromise and i am prepared to live with it and enjoy the grunt of a V8 and good ecoconomy of a diesel. I have all the diagnostic software for this engine so have no reservations about reliabilty.

    Hi Gaz,
this is a dream combination for me. That auto is a beautiful thing...Can't wait for the pics, and yes, I was also told ' Don't be an idiot, it'll never fit' when I asked a few diesel conversion places for info about the engine and trans etc so I could go about fitting one to the RR. Shortsighted and downright rude some of them were, I can tell you

    Keep up the good work!

The Isuzu 110. Solid and as dependable as a rock, coming soon with auto box😊
The Range Rover L322 4.4.TTDV8 ....probably won't bother with the remap..😈

    Gaz,
A tutorial on this conversion would be fantastic and I am sure we can get it as a sticky somewhere when you get time. Details of modifications, parts and equipment suppliers and dramas you come up against would be a bonus and very valuable to the fraternity. I for one would be looking at this option when the TD5 gets tired.
