Question What's the best way to wire in a work lamp?

Time to drill more holes in the Puma

So what is the best way to wire in a high mounted work lamp on a Defender?

I'm going to mount the lamp on the roof rack and then I'll need to run the cable down inside (there's the spare wires near the tail lights I can use).

I'm thinking a water tight grommet, pass the cable through, positioned in the roof above the rear window gutter is the best idea. I'll mount the lamp on the roof rack so that its nice and high up and protected by the rack.

I thought I'd try and find the OEM work lamp fitting instructions but can't find any on the web. I could then borrow from these. Does anyone know how the OEM work light attaches?

There is certainly an extreme lack of information on fitting the work light! Best I can dig up is a pic out of the parts manual:

Thanks Tim, there really isn't much out there that I can find. Would have thought they'd have the fitting instructions like they do with a lot of other stuff, but doesn't look like its up on the web in any format.

    Hopefully someone will know though.

    So Derek

Have you got the work light wired up yet? (pics)

I was thinking about doing similar, but maybe with some sort of weather proof plug for when I take the roof rack off.

    Hi Derek,

I had mine (OE) fitted by Land Rover. It is mounted to the rear passenger side on a bracket. Hole drilled through the back section of the roof (not top of roof) and a neat rubber grommet to pass the wires through.

I can't tell you where it is wired too but pretty sure it comes from the back to the front passenger and down behind the dash to pick up power. I then have a switch mounted on the console to flick it on & off as required. I'm a bit useless at this stuff hence I "outsource" when needed.

    Cheers,

    Nigel

No but it will be in the next few weeks before I leave - I hope. I think the hole that Nigel mentions is the only real way to do this. I also want to feed in the UHF aerial wire too.

No, that's great thanks! That's a very close fit to the garage roof

    One more question...

Did they wire in any additional switch or is it just on the back of the light?
