    Two Questions for Puma experts

    Hi Guys,

I have a two questions for the forum..
    1. There is a cross member underneath the gearbox with a bracket there to support it. Should there be some sort of mount there, as mine is just hanging in the breeze a few cm away. (see photo)

    2. Tow Bars... which one to get? I have heard that some you cant keep the step, others you cant fit long range tanks. Advice Please

    Thanks

    Craig

The cross member is normal - all like that.

Towbar - I like the genuine one - keeps your rear step - but I beleive some, if not all, long range tanks that replace the standard tank won't work with the genuine bar.

You can get around that by fitting the Opposite Lock gravity feed 45 l aux tank.

mmmmm I'm guessing a gearbox mount but don't have the car here to confirm...

if you fit a hayman reace you can fit a long range tank I think but lose the ability to keep the rear step if you fit genuine you keep the rear step but are unable to fit the long range tank....I think I got that the right away round....

We have a genuine one...and fitted an aux fuel tank in the rear drivers side quarter for extra 45L

The cross member isn't bolted to the g/box,and as db says I don't think a long range tank can be fitted with the stds tow pack, pos the NAS one may be ok

So if it doesn't blot to anything why would they have that bracket there with a hole in it?

Do you think its to do with production! lifting and moving the chassis or something?

The mystery bracket has been discussed on UK forums... its still a mystery!

Towbar - go the genuine, but check the Hayman Reece as it may be the same unit.

    Hi Craig,

I have done what Dullbird has done also...A genuine towbar. But make sure you ring around the dealers although not sure if you have many choices in Broome. I had one dealer said about $1000 fitted, the next dealer $850, the next dealer....(still waiting for the return phone call) and another dealer $720. I went with that and was about 3hrs fitting.

And fitting a aux fuel tank in the rear drivers side quarter for extra 45L. It is the better choice in my opinion for 2 reasons:

    1. The replacement tank looks like it hangs down a bit further than the original. I can't confirm 100% but to the naked eye that's what I thought.

    2. Cost. The additional 45L you get is the full 45L. This means you have a total of 120L on board. With a replacement tank you get 127L. But with the design of the tank with such a flat base, you can't pick up the last 7L so you are back to 120L. A replacement take is about twice the price for no additional gain.

But, maybe you want a replacement tank and an aux tanks...and heavier springs, etc...etc...$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ $$$$$$$
