I’ve got 2 cameras already fitted to my 110. (1 up high above the washer and the other near the number plate.) I’d like to mod the wiring in a couple of ways:

    1) So I can turn on the cameras with a switch so I can monitor my trailer while I’m driving.
2)Add a switch so I can turn on the reverse light straight off the battery to use as a camping light.

Any clues where I’d find the existing wiring from the reverse switch to make these mods? Thanks in advance!!

    Hi,
    1) So I can turn on the cameras with a switch so I can monitor my trailer while I’m driving.

I took a wire from the battery, via a relay, to a fuse box that I mounted under the cubby. (I had to lift it a few inches with some pine battens.)
The relay turns on by a SPDT switch by choosing either an ignition wire or one from the spare battery.

This gives me power to this fuse box while the ignition is on, or the spare battery has power, as I choose.
The cameras/monitor are powered from this fuse box and I use the camera as a rearview mirror to see behind the slide on camper.

2)Add a switch so I can turn on the reverse light straight off the battery to use as a camping light.

It is not legal to be able to select this from the driver's seat.
(Though it can be done with the engine running, by putting the transfer box in neutral and the main gearbox in reverse.)
You could have a SPDT switch in the back that fed from either the existing wire (as per normal) or in the other position, from a wire from the battery.

Though with LEDs so cheap to buy and run, I would wonder why you would restrict your lighting to the reverse lights on a Defender.
    Cheers

Thanks for the info, anyone have any ideas where physically I’d locate the wire that they’d have tapped for the camera from the reverse switch?
I would grab it straight off the switch but it’s tricky to get to to run wires as far as I can see...

(Austastar the reverse light idea is only as a bit of supplemental light if it’s easy to do, hence why I’m not thinking of adding a specific LED. You made a good point though )

Hi, I came off the reverse lights that I fitted to my tray, ran the wire in a length of garden watering 13mm poly hose up inside the LH chassis rail, out near the battery box and in to the cab via an existing gromit.
Yep, long way, but the current is negligible.
    Cheers
