    e.g Stage 1 V8.

OK - I bet you a "Farmville" goat that this doesn't happen! The 07 year defender will run full term with a transit engine.

I'll see your "Farmville" goat and raise you a Date tree .

New Land Rover developed, 2.8l de-tuned Td4 with three-stage turbo, variable everything and some other hokus-pokus technology that spits out fresh air and baby seals from its exhaust in the 07MY Defender chassis carrying over to the 2014 all-new, Tata developed tin can.

Actually I've changed my theory of what's likely to happen...

2014 - Land Rover will change the Defender over to all electric with little, 25kW, hi-torque electric motors on each hub (giving 100kW at the wheels). No gearbox or transfer case or diffs needed - heaps less moving parts. Roof will be all hi-efficiency solar panels able to recharge the gel-battery bank fully in 4 hours. Full charge will be enough to run for 4 hours (highway) or 2hrs off-road thereby giving the car virtually unlimited range when touring. There will be a tiny, 1.1l 3cyl diesel engine mainly to recharge the batteries when there is insufficient sun. This will be able to run as a stand alone generator when touring/camping or for "limp home" if electrics fail or batteries crash. Traction control and engine braking will all be electronically controlled since each wheel has its own motor.

...and the Rudd government will be returned for its third successive term.

Remember, everyone laughed at me when I predicted the Defender would win 4x4OTY in 2007. It came second!

the engine is not the only issue, did any one see the article in 4X4 monthly regarding lift kits and the law? it seems that ASR stability control may be the undoing of the Fender.
