I reckon that's a good decision. If you haven't got the cash available then there's a lot of work required to pay back the loan etc. If you look again in a few years they will have dropped quite a bit in price (for a 2009 model, obviously

Thats the great feature of Defenders, just refurb them & away you go. I'm just about to register an '85 County Isuzu. 6 months & a few grand & its good for another 300,000 klm.

exactly right matey, and am thinking of importing a 90 for the missus as she likes the defender but hated the disco ?!
I reckon a work over on the lump/ gearbox and she'll be right
Ideally if i really wanted it to last for ever i would go galvanised chassis/ new body panels new gearbox and engine but the lottery hasn't come in yet go the meccano marvels

Unless you can find some loophole, or you know someone in UK who can bring one back for you, there is bugger all option to import a 90. They've tied it down so much that it's just not practical to import 'everyday' vehicles into Australia.

I was gonna look at getting an ex army 90 done as a hard top with a 300 wacked in it i would only have to go back to that dump for a holiday so i could justify having it imported too easy ...now duty is the worry i think

You would need to own it and prove use of it by you for at least 12 months to be able to do it. Duty is the least of the problems.

easy i leave Australia Fly to uk buy motor of choice and spend 12 months driving back to Australia and have a chassis gearbox engine all waiting here for the re-build !!! lol
