    Replacement Puma diff warranty terms

I'm not sure if other Puma owners are aware of this, but I was given a note with the following instructions, after my rear diff was replaced under warranty...

    DIFF RUN IN PROCEDURE
    ***PLEASE ADVISE YOUR CUSTOMER***
    FOR THE FIRST 500 KMS
    DO NOT EXCEED 80 KPH
    OR DO ANY HEAVY TOWING
    NO HARSH OR RAPID ACCELERATION
DO NOT SIT ON ONE SPEED FOR EXTENDED PERIODS OF TIME
VARY THE SPEED UP AND DOWN AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE
CITY/PEAK HOUR TRAFFIC DRIVING IS PERFECT FOR DIFF RUN IN
AVOID DRIVING ON FREEWAYS FOR THE FIRST 500 KMS
FAILURE TO ADHERE TO THE ABOVE PROCEDURE WILL VOID DIFF WARRANTY

I wonder why, when the new vehicle didn't have any such warning with run in.

Did you have a new diff fitted or a rebuilt one?

I'd say rebuilt by that note & it's probably just a general recommendation from the outside repairer.

I didn't get that clarified Scott. I was of the opinion that all component rebuilds were done be Land Rover, but that might not necessarily be so.

If their recommendation must be followed and if not would void warranty......how could they possibly tell that you didn't?

Do they undo the diff and go.....oooopppps, this one looks like they drove it at 90 kmh, drove it on the freeway, towed with it, did harsh acceleration etc...etc..

As others have said, I would like to see them prove that particularly when there was no instructions from when the vehicle was new!

You did a rear diff as well, you kept that one quiet. Even I haven't managed that

The run in instructions for the rovers are ment to cover the whole vehicle not just the engine.

an abusive run in will show up at pull down time but normal every day driving for the run in period wont.

My personal theory on it is to do with the fact that people are more attentive to the vehicle if you tell them it has a run in period and they need to drive it thus and so to get the best life out of it. A diff that comes back on day 2 with a reported strange noise is easier to fix than one that comes back a fortnight and 2000Km later with bits hanging out of it.

It's well known in Puma circles.

At $75000 for a new county with a salisbury diff few of us could afford what you have.
