The war is still going. Much of the infra is damaged and it's not over yet. I can't see any chance of us seing the fuel prices we had a month ago in the next year or maybe two. It's just not happening. If more of the infra is damaged and that 20% doesn't return to the system I can see very elevated prices for a long time.
Australias oil that we have and is known about is predominately light.. better for petrol rather than diesel. If diesel wasn't in trouble before (and it was) I can see the near extinction of private transport that uses diesel in the future.
In the 70's the oil crisis significantly changed the automotive landscape. It seems unlikely that what's happened already hasn't already had a significant impact on the way people think about personal transport.
It's also just possible that we are looking at a major fuel crisis that will change the way people look at "War Juice". As I've opined (and you've disputed) people have been chosing big thirsty cars because the car makers have tried diligently to make DC's and SUV's drive well. And yeah they can do lots and if fuel is cheap why not.
IMHO we might see people significantly rethinking their choices. We might be going back to the 90's where people drove smaller cars and had a box trailer for the odd jobs that are now done by DC's.. But instead of small cars it will likely be EV's. As I've said before my EV has a 1600kg braked tow rating. It would tow my little camper trailer for local trips, and laugh over a box trailer for the bunnings/dump runs.
My colleage ordered a Tesla last weekend. It was "march April" Delivery. By Sunday it was April -May delivery As at now.. one weekd later it's June July delivery!.
Further I can see the whole "Grey Nomad" big lap thing being irrepairably damaged. I fear for the little towns throughout the outback who have found an additional source of income from tourism. I am genuinely sad about that. Even the unthinkable.. I'm glad I have a camper rather than a monster van. Perhaps even the defender will have to be questioned.. new cars use a lot less fuel.

Probably we will see a transition away from "it's fine.. we've got plenty of fuel" mid - later next month. A reduction in fuel excise won't help you if you can't find fuel to buy.
