My own suggestions are to give these ones a go...

    Comedy:

Withnail and I - OS 117 Cairo Nest of Spies - Anything Monty Python

    Drama:

V for Vendetta and They Live

    General Top Drawer Entertainment:

Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels and Snatch

Of course there are many more but these all jump out as `Must Sees`
ill give these a try too...

as for lock stock and snatch, i have them. im a big fan of Guy Ritchie movies. i especially enjoyed Rock n Rolla...

    Yep, that's a good list.

Maybe also "The Castle" but its appeal internationally may not be as great as within Oz.

Malcolm - very amusing, unpretentious comedy.

Rabbit Proof Fence - part of Australia's history that some would like to deny or forget.
Rabbit-Proof Fence (2002) on ASO - Australia's audio and visual heritage online

Jindabyne - based on a 20-year-old short story by American Raymond Carver, but it’s been so well adapted it seems very Australian.

    I'd add

'Ten Canoes' At the Movies: Ten Canoes

    to Disco2's list. Fantastic movie.
    Oh, and

    'The Dish'

A humorous version of Australia's involvement in the Apollo 11 moon landing.
As is so often the case, never let the facts get in the way of a good story The Dish - The Truth i

No one's mentioned 'Bad Boy Bubby' ?

'Lantana' (SWMBO couldn't get into it but it sucked me right in) Great cast and great drama.

'The Oyster Farmer' (OK I might have a thing for Kerry Armstrong too...and I'm not allowed to say that about Rachael Blake as her Tony has family here who I know )
