This is a Barking Owl (Ninox connivens). Reasonably common in dry forest areas. Their calls do sound like dogs barking and they also have a blood-curdling scream, which they refer to as the "Screaming woman" call and it has been known to fool many folks into thinking there is a murder being committed. Google the calls and hear for yourself.

I think this is my first every bird photo offered to AULRO...It might also be the only bird shot I've ever taken I don't know what it is but I was happy it stopped by

Great photo. It is a Spotted Scrubwren (Sericornis frontalis maculatus). It is the south-western member of the White-browed Scrubwren group (see White-browed Scrubwren | BIRDS in BACKYARDS).

Love the gulls fighting over the chip.

Birds are active again in Tasmania. I have managed to capture this Regent Honeyeater yesterday and I hope that I will be able to get better shots in the future.
