    Well I'm pretty sure the one I saw was an immature male but it was definitely Anhinga novaehollandiae and not Anhinga melanogaster. So between us we kind of captured a pair

    As for crawling on the ground... definitely with you on that one
    Also the monopod does make a handy walking stick.

    Been a few of these noisy things around lately.Channel-billed Cuckoo or Hornbill.They are very shy,hard to get a good pic,this is the best i could do.

    They are a large bird and lay their eggs in a crows nest.Their young are among the noisiest in the bird world and keep the crows on the hop feeding them.All the crows young are kicked out of the nest.
    If the nest is to close to your home,you will finish blowing the nest to bits with a shotgun,the noise is out of this world.
