why not CS4, Chucaro?
Oh and oldsalt, gimp is free I believe, it's downloadable. The others you can get free trials but they will need a serial to work after 30 days I think. Just incase money is an issue

The reason why I did not mentioned CS4 is because there is not advantages in upgrade from CS3 to CS4.
Regarding value I believe that Nikon Capture NX2 for $ 177.00 is the best option.
Its Lightroom 3.6 and Photoshop for me.
Lightroom 4 beta is also out in the wild now.
imho
capture nx2 is great once you get your head round it...
and nothing exports to jpg as well as it does if you have a nikon
the easiest is view nx2 -> photoshop
lr3 i find great for mass processing to websites using one of the builtin templates. other than that i rarely use it now.
usually it is view nx2 -> capture nx2 and on to photoshop if i want to add a little something

I do not use jpg format not even for my ready to print files. I save my images in tif wih the layers open so the lab can adjust it to suit their monitor, printer and selected paper.
IMO CS3 and NX2 make anexcellent combination, NX@ for reading and do basic adjustments in the nef files without ignoring the camera settings (nikon) and CS3 with Nik and onOne plugins to do the final adjustments ready for printing.
I cannot see the advantage of go to CS4.
CS5 have some extras which can be attractive but then again do not justify the cost for the upgrade.
Also CS3 is more stable than trhe original CS5. Ido not know if some of the issues in CS5 are corrected now.
Fair enoughI've not used the others only CS5
Agree. I tend to lean towards Acdsee Pro 5. Which is at a reasonable price. I also have Photo Elements 9 which I also use on occassions.CS 5 or 4 or 3 would be nice, I just find Adobe's prices a bit "high" for their products.....![]()
