Thread: noticed the camera doesn't fire as quick with the 70-200 on

If the camera is OK with another lens then it has to be something to do with the 70-200.

The only thing that can slow the camera down is focus lock so I would check your camera and lens settings.

Also clean the contacts on the lens (and camera).

It is possible that the lens needs a service but I'd try it on another Nikon body if you can and see how it performs.

how do I clean the contacts? are you talking about the Pins for the aperture?

That's them, they also control the electronics in the lens.There is a group of pins on the very end of the lens mount that line up with the white dot. The aperture also has a mechanical lever too.

What model Nikon do you have?

My brother has the D800,and have heard him saying it is slower at times,with some lenses.

i think it is something to do with the camera processing,if that makes any sense.

You can use a q-tip and a drop of alcohol on it.

Ok I just have looked at the photos of the camera and I have to say they are terrible!!!! they appear over exposed although I have just calibrated the screen and that doesnt seem to have gone as planned....

even at 1/100 the images are not sharp and granulated like the ISO is up which it wasnt it was at 100, which surprised me as the day was bright sunshine.

admittedly though i was in the shade shooting out in to the bright sun (sun behind me) so maybe this had an effect

I have also noted that shots which are 1/50 appear over exposed.


and that also makes me remember I put the camera in Manual mode at one stage I recall the camera being slower to fire than in aperture priority mode.

I also recall that in manual mode the Bars at the bottom in the view finder that you can use to help you get right exposure were moving now come to think of it.... so as I was adjusting the dials to get it on the line they kept changing like the camera was reading constant changes in the lens which again usually doesnt happen unless I was moving with the lens without realising...

the pictures that have come of this lens are appalling considering I have shot half decent shots with this lens in low light with only 1/30sec...

I have shots from 1/50 up to over 100 shots are over exposed nothing is sharp I have blur from movement which I can sort of understand at the lower speeds if I wasnt paning well...

I def think there is either something wrong with my camera or the lens this used to be THE lens to put on now I wish I never used it at all...its making me think I cant take a photo anymore.

If all else fails you can also try a factory or full reset of the camera.

I just remembered something about the 70-200. It has a reputation for locking up the earlier model bodies (D70/80/100/200) if you don't turn off the camera before removing the lens. But I don't think this applies here.
