LOL! ... sorry did you already buy?

So as an FYI, even tho it's not pertinent to your situation. you can use the (later) type ENEL3e( D300 and some other cameras I think) battery on the earlier models(D70 D200, etc). They have a third tab which is for monitoring battery health.
D70(and D200, D100, etc) cameras don't have the accompanying pin to read those tabs.
But the cameras that use the later 3 tab battery do! .. so you can't use the earlier battery(ENEL-3 that is) on the later cameras .. the earlier battery, has a thin hollowed out section close to the centre of the battery next to the -ve terminal(-ve on the inside, +ve on the edge). The later battery type has a wider cut hollow part, which lines up with the older type battery, but doesn't allow the older battery into the newer camera.
Technically, you could mod the battery and cut the locating slot wider, but you wouldnt' do that coz if you fitted the older battery into the new camera you'd risk damaging the important battery health tab in the camera.

But doesn't matter too much which battery you got in the end, just that the 'e' version of the battery can have higher capacity (they are in effect the same batteries internally).

I tried and I tried, but couldn't ever find suitable cells to replace, but more importantly opening the battery case was terminal. I tried a couple of solvents(brake cleaner and thinners) to try to open the case without damage. But no luck. I did open one of the D70 batteries up(IIRC the Nikon one) years ago and found some weird cell size and couldn't find cells to suit. Battery was totally dead, so wasn't wasted.

I also found that for the D70s and D300, the generic batteries in some instances were better(more shots per charge).
Initially for the D800, I found same result, but then over time that changed and Nikon genuine seemed to hold charge better. But the D800 result could have been me not keeping batteries topped up too.

Did you get a card? (once again... huge apology) but I have a card that is surplus to requirements if you need one.
I have tried a few adapter over time, but so long ago now, I can't remember what and what. CF to SD, I can't remember. I know I have a couple of CF adapters of some type.
Can't say for sure, but if you found one, I think it'd work.
On my D800, which have CF and SD, I use a micro SD. I had SD cards, but (back then) they were too small to be useful, but I had lots of 32 to 128Gb micros from phones and stuff .. so why waste? So I used SD to Micro adapter in the D800 and used one of my 32G micros, no problemo there.

Don't forget to set the date-time once you get it running again.

Yeah. Bloody amazoon. Shopping on the net is way too easy. Anyway, the D70 is more of a hobby project than anything. I've had it 20 years and I thought it was lovely when I got it. Hadn't owned a Nikon since my old F2, which was high end back then. Took amazing shots on ASA 400 Ilford monochrome with the ASA* set way high. I loved the graininess you could get. That's all long gone, of course, and smartphones replaced the magic with convenience, and we had a bunch of point and shoot in the interim, with all the pics gathering in Gigabytes of HDD space and never being looked at. I want to see if I will use the Nikon before I consider getting another DSLR. Don't want mirrorless, I am repurposing my old Panasonic camcorder for vid. Easy to convert them to digital media instead of tape. And of course my iPhone pro takes bloody good vids anyway. It's still the camera I have with me. But, if I ever get away in the OKA I'd like to have something other than the ubiquitous smartphone.

Ya!.... good old ISO to ASA. same ol same ol ... once you know this.

In the late 80s I didn't know this, and my Rollei only had ASA and DIN ... wery-guten-da! ... of course it's the cheaper made in Singapore model(not German), but had no ISO(which was just ASA in disguise).

I think I used to buy mainly Agfa film 'cause they had DIN values. Of course at some point later I worked out ISO/ASA ... but this is the point of learning as you go.

How did you go with card/adpater/reader shopping?

Found one of my CF adapters(CF to USB 'reader' type device). It's just a stick thing(like a USB thumb drive).
For D70 cards, works no problem. For D300, ummmm .... it works, but you wished it wouldn't. For the D800 ... Hahaha ... it works, if you have a lifetime to spare.
It says USB2.0, but I think they got the numbers wrong way around, and it's USB0.2!
The point here is that it works, is super compact, no cables, no external power requirements and stuff and fits anywhere in your bag, so much so it's easy to lose in there.

I'd say either get a CF card for the D70, and get something like ... THIS READER ... off ebay, as long as your devices have some USB/USB-C ports to bind too.

As a Win/Droid user for years.. you somehow end up with lots of cards and cables and devices, so that type of device is handy to have for reading/writing to cards.
I don't have that particular device.
Not sure how it would fare for a Mac/iOS user. I know that my missus' Macbook thing doesn't have USB-A ports tho.
Only device she owns is a small adventure type camera(can't recall the brand/model) for doing social media type vids. But it has wireless tethering, and she transfers her vids from camera to macbook(or iPhone) and to me it feels painfully slow.

In terms of size(for the D70) you'd want about 1Gb per 200 images. 8Gb will give you about 1400 D70 files.
Also(FWIW) I used to avoid SanDisk after some time with them. Used to have lot of CFs for my cameras. pretty much all the sizes up to 32G. All the SanDisk cards bar one 1Gb card had died. Granted all about 20 years old too now, but strange thing is none of the off brand cards had died in the same period. D800 I only ever used a Lexar CF(and a SanDisk SD cards). For the D300 I settled on a LX series 8Gb for it's speed. (weirdly this LX series never worked in the D800!) couple of A-Data 8gigs survived and a solitary SanDisk 1Gb survived.

My Mac is 13 years old, the other one 6 ( I won't mention the G4 Cube... oh, wait ). USB is the norm, but old style thunderbolt ( new style, same plug as USB-C only faster, on the smaller one )as well. I am running the latest but one OS, using a patcher as my Mac isn't supported any longer. runs fine, but not quick by today's M chip standards. I have no trouble with drone footage editing, off the micro SD the Autel uses. The CF card I have is a SanDisk UltraII, 1GB and as old as the camera. I had no issues ordering a card reader, a UGreen thing off amazoon because prime... I'll try the card, although it could easily be dead. Or, it may have something amazing on it I don't remember taking. I'll wait until I've woken the camera up before I buy anything else. It may be dead as well, although that would be unusual for Nikon.

All this is only to see if I still like photography like I used to in another life. Don't want to buy something new to gather dust.

Oh, and it seems the deal I got on two batteries is for the E version, so maybe a SH D** could be in the offing..... sigh.

CF reader arrived today. Plugged it in and the Mac recognised it instantly. Cool. Nothing of note on it sadly. Batteries next.

All I have to do now is remember how to use it. Amazon was feeling generous, it seems. Ordered 2 batteries, they delivered 4.

Oh, yeah, and find the charger.... I know it's here somewhere...

    Haha ... yeah.

I have(actually got it for my daughter) D5600. Good little cam. Damned you reckon I could find the charger for it! Found plenty of other stuff I hadn't used for ages.
Of course it was in the least likely place I thought I'd put it(when I moved house).

Another useless tip for 'ya. For when/if you go traveling ... cheapie 12v charger for them batteries works well. Had mine for as long as the D70, still good .. maybe 19years now.

Great camera in it’s day. I only replaced mine a few years ago.
