I felt the hairs on the back of my neck stand when I saw this picture on my PC. Didn't know I had captured the mantis. In fact, I didn't see or know there was a mantis ... just saw the fly, focused on it and shot.
I had seen the fly earlier, alive and well, so went into the house, got my camera and came back out to look for it. Saw it moving on a leave, went close in and snapped a few shot.
Then saw the mantis, which only a small one, maybe about 35mm or inch and a bit. Only realised later the bug's head had been partly eaten already.
It's a bug-eat-bug world out there. So if you are having a rough day, remember that, at least, no one is eating your head for breakfast. With that thought in your head, which you still have, have a nice day!
A later shot ...

Awesome shot and awesome luck, maybe we need to start another thread... lucky shots!
Matt.
Don't you just hate it when some joker's always clowning around in the background when you're having your formal portrait taken?

Keeping this thread alive... Really suprising what b&w can do to a photo, it's addictive.

I'm in Malaysia and they are kind of native here ... scientific name implies they are from nearby Java. I like having them around, makes it easy to do bird photography without leaving home, literally.
