A few images from our first outing with the new Hannibal 1.8 m tent. Very impressed with it. Managed to have everything set up in a matter of minutes. Not bad for first attempt. It blew like mad over the weekend and the tent stood up to it easily.
We are very soon upgrading to a 2m tent so we can sleep crossways in it and the four of us will fit better. 2m tent has two ladders and entrances so might take a minute or so longer to set up, but the advantages outway that. Probably also going to go the jumbo fly on next tent. Never wanted that, but with the amount of rain we've had recently I think it's a good idea.

It is a little late, but I have been using a borrowed Howling Moon deluxe for 6 months or so. It is only a baby @ 1.2M I think.

I have only managed a few outings including 4 days at Sauna Sail (Latrobe valley in July).

I grew up with family camping in tents, then 'upgraded' to commercially made swags, then had a swag custom made at work ( brilliant to have access to guys with industrial sewing machines, full rolls of canvas and plenty of spare time ).

Now that I am using the roof-topper, I am a convert thru and thru. Apart from the mobility issue of having your accommodation attached to your vehicle, the tent is the bees neez.

The 1.2 is a little squeezy for two but the missus does not particularly like camping, so it works out great

How have folks found the tents with the mini annex over the ladder ? Do they need any sort of pegging out or are they self supporting? The Howling Moon has the ladder out in the open and there are times I think it would be nice to have cover over the ladder.

I would like to hear from anybody who has bought one of the ebay specials or even seen one. The price is right but it is difficult to pick the quality without seeing them in person. My time is almost up with the borrowed tent and I really don't think I can go back to swags .

I used to sell them approx 4 years ago on ebay, never had a complaint, we decided to stop as there were guys trying to sell them less than the cost price just to corner the market.

I am using a 1.4m hanibal with the jumbo annex.
The annex is a pain to pack up, but it is getting better as the cover must be stretching. I dont think will handle the high winds very well unless you are real good with ropes and pegs. I would have liked a standard annex as well for weekend trips
The front window lets the dew drip down onto the flyscreen so in the morning you get a fine splash come through the screen.
Those are the only grippes I have with it.
On the plus side the ladder is good on bare feet and because it splits, it sits lower than the ARB tent.

Here is our camping set up using an eezi awn roof top tent on top of a track trailer. I put in a plywood draw system under the tent which has a basic kitchen and storage. We also have a Hannibal Awning which worked well. Only complaint with the awning is it rattled on corrugated roads. However it is probably the way I am packing it away. I will have to get a refresher from Peter at Hannibal.

The set up worked quite well.

I bought an ebay special about 3.5 years ago and it has been great. No dramas with quality but since it has sat on vehicle full time the cover copped a flogging, so had to buy another one.

All in all happy as an intro unit. I intend to convert the workshop trailer to a camper trailer( without butchering) and use as a base and just have RTT for overnighters away from camp. Best of both worlds that way.

I have the shower screen/annexe for it but with 2 inch lift on 110 it is a touch short and abit fiddley to really be useful so I have not used it, maybe once.
