Another for the mix, from Galaxy in Perth.

One used it once so far for two nights. A few faults but so far OK.

Planning to head to Karajini in July for a full test.

I suppose one would really need a flat roof rack to accept a roof top tent?

I have a roof rack with 4 sides so i can't imagine it would work to well without modification...

Could get the angle grinder and cut the back side out and replace the section with hinges and weld on tabs to accept locking pins of some sort.

Ideas anyone? I don't want to replace the roof rack and like the idea of a roof top tent.

The guy at Galaxy was very helpful re roof rack or bars. He may be a contact to get some advice that would apply to most brands of RTT.

Here is mine whilst being fitted this evening.
It was an ebay purchase and came with annex with mozzie net and the bit which goes under the tent so the ladder is inside (I can't remember what it is called.)
The quality is very good I must say, and the attention to detail in the design is great. The weatherproof cover zips around the base of the tent - totally enclosing it for travelling.

It is easy to unfold and fold back up.
I am trying it out this weekend so I will let you know how it goes.

They usually come (well mine did) with the hardware to mount to the top of roof racks.
These are clamps which can be moved anywhere on the two rails underneath the main tent. I had to cut the bottom rails to make it mount off the rear, otherwise you can use them as is to mount sideways.
    .
Do you want some scanned instructions to show this?

I mounted mine flat on the roof to the canopy roof supports - due to the height of the top of the canopy I would have had to extend the ladder othewise. The max height at the base of the tent is 2m before you need to alter the ladder or buy an extension piece.

    The howling moon

I guess I might as well through my two bob's worth in, we're currently travelling around South America with a 110 Puma fitted with ARB roof racks (ie. one long one and a short one with the end of one cut off and the front of the other). I had an aluminium sheet on top of the lot and had to cut away the side rails and supports near the back to fit the tent.

Having said all that, the reality is that we have had problably six months of solid use, which is likely to be much more than any roof top tent or other tent ever gets. We also have a Howling Moon zip on room and an awning. None of these have given any trouble, I guess you get what you pay for, the canvas is good heavy duty and the whole thing well made.

So given the use we are giving it you can say we certainly are getting our monies worth, but if it was for the occaisonal camping trip, maybe not.

Mind you, having the Hannibal dealership within an hour's drive is very helpful.
