    Awnings

Hi guys, just a quick question, why do most guys here in WA fit their awnings to the passenger side of the 4x4's ?

Just seems the logical way. No other particular reason for me.

Like the campers have their awnings, doors, etc on the passenger side.

You can always be different and put it on the drivers side....I saw one a couple of weeks ago and it made me look twice.

Because all rear doors open for passenger side access(apart from tailgate type doors of coarse)

Note of caution: some of the American cars don't have side-opening tailgates converted to open for passenger side access..

I think that also it is more logical if you stop by the side of the road that the awning extends away from the roadside (over the pavement in urban environments).

Having said that, since my top-box opens over the passenger side I would need to get one that opens over the driver's side.

Because all rear doors open for passenger side access in right hand drive vehicles(apart from tailgate type doors of coarse)

Hah hah, sorry, not trying to start an argument, but what I did actually mean was that some (ie not "all") right hand drive vehicles that were converted from American vehicles do actually have the gate swing towards the passenger side because the converters were lazy.

Another example of this laziness was in the Mini Clubman where there is one suicide door for easier access to the rear row, but no matter which market, it still is on the right hand side, which means your kiddies in Australia get out into the traffic...

I've got a Foxwing which come in left or right sided and for some reason is actually cheaper in right sided, but I chose left. Just seems to make more sense, for some reason, I guess it means you can pull over to the side of the road and open it up for some roadside shade if you need to. No other reason really.

Probably also reduced road noise for the driver. The passenger gets less priority

for me its always been best for passenger side as my snorkle's have always been on the drivers side, I know this isn't the case for all but it was a factor for me.

also the rear door thing, and if you open a car door to sit in the car the passenger side offer more room
