    Camp Cooking

Does anyone have experience cooking with a Cobb? I have a Weber kettle at home and use a mini version for cooking while camping, but I've heard Cobbs are pretty good.

    Cheers

Thanks pop, yes I am here

Cobb... we have ours in the camper and cook.... Scones, pizzas, roasts, snags, eggs, steak, cakes, vege bake, patoto bake... should I go on The cobb does excatly what your home oven does only smaller Big enough for 4 as long as you are not huge eaters

and if cold makes a nice heater to sit around

Hmm I can smell the scones pop

I have had a Cobb for years . I go through phases of using it. I find it has good and bad points.

It does a good roast but I find you need to turn the meat to get it crispy both sides. I find it fiddly to clean compared to my other cooking partner, being the Hillbilly. If you want to cook a steak I find I cant get enough heat under it and it stews the meat.

However its great in the fact you can take it into a parkland light it up put the lid on it and your away. I find if its cold the heat you get from it you would almost need to sit on it.

Currently the Hillbilly is in phase for me. I cook with it on the fire using the adjustable accessories. It does great vegies using the vegie ring.

If you want great even cooking with it use heat beads if its a 12 inch pot put 12 + 6 heat beads on top and 6 underneath. If you want crispy meat and veg just leave the lid ajar just slightly to let the steam out. another good portable cooker is the campfire brand frying pan with lid. You can cook an excellent roast in it on the gas. Its great.

One other thing with the Cobb its a bit boring when its cooking as not much seems to happen. not like cooking on the fire

    Cheers

I agree with Mrs Ho Har, on all counts.

The only problem I have is it doesn't fit in any of the storage compartments of our new Trayon camper I can't bring myself to sell it - hopefully we can work out somewhere to put it!

It would fit in the 101... I could store it for you until you find somewhere for it.... You're coming to Glenreagh right...

You could store a bloody upright stove in a 101!

Still undecided about Glenreagh - will depend on work commitments or lack thereof.

We have a Cobb and really only cook roasts in it, but find it to be excellent.
