I removed the generator and pulled out that fine wire. I cleaned the fine wire as it didn't seem smooth as u ran your fingers over it. I hit it with a little steel wool, then cleaned out the generator with some brake cleaner and then put it all back together after fully cleaning it. It appears to be working fine now, so will see how it goes over time.
FWIW: If the stove has been run mainly on petrol or kero, I find that putting a 1/2 tank of Shellite through it every so often keeps the jets fairly clean.
