UPDATE #5
Fridge still running well. I found that the built in low voltage cut out is pretty sensitive (not sure what its set at). I have run 6 B+S wiring from the aux batt under the bonnet to the fridge in the back through then through a fuse block. I had to straight connect it in order for it to run ie bypass the fuse block. Mind you i was up at 12am on a friday night still finishing it off the before a trip on Sat, so i could have done some dodgy wiring. Ok 90% sure. Would you believe 95%......... anyway its working now after a little bit of fine tuning.
I have since noticed that the fridge is BIG !! and the way i put it into my cargo drawers cold have been better. I cut in and hinged a flap above the fridge to allow the lid to open more freely. Ive also moved the hinges to the skinny side of the lid to alow it to open like a 40ltr Engel. I asked the seller whether this was possible and as long as i used really short self-tappers, i wouldnt run into trouble. No hissing sound of holes in refrigerant lines yet, so i think all is good.
I also have the freezer section at the back. I did have it the other way around, but it was hard to reach into as its the deepest part so Ive now turned it around. When you think about it, you are far more likely to want to get something out of the fridge than the freezer!!!
Pic of the setup - minus the disco Drawers still a work in progress.

G'day Toppa,
I'm planning on buying a cheap ebay fridge in the next few days. Do you have any idea how many amp hours your 80L uses?
Garry, how is yours travelling? Do you know if your one is still available on ebay? Your estimated power usage stats are impressively low.
I'm considering one of the following, but I'm concerned about power usage and quality of compressor. I have a second battery ~120AH deep cycle + a 60W solar panel. Trying to figure out which of these I can keep running.... Bigger the better of course! Plus SWMBO is VERY keen on dual zone. I just don't want to buy a dual zone 80-90L one if we can't keep it running - that would be real crap.

Mine is still running well - not sure if they are still available - most likely updated to what you see on ebay now.
Mine does not use a lot of power (even with the cheap compressor) but mine does seem to have thicker walls than basic Wacos and Angels. I recently also bought a 25l EvaKool for shorter trips and it drained my battery on the second night where my ebay 55l never has.
I have been quite happy with my cheap ebay fridge - its cost is not much more than a basic service on a Waeco or Engel.

Is it a compressor driven one? From my research, most that are less than circa 30L are not compressor driven. They are "thermo" type systems, which use WAAAY more power than a compressor one. They are like the old 3-way type fridges, except can't be run on gas.... I.E. hopeless and you're better off going a bigger one that has a compressor.
It is a compressor fridge.

Hi Judo,
Mine draws about 4 amps when compressor is running. I just got back from a few days ion the high country and it ran flawlessly. It runs off a 55a/h optima yellow top and kept everything icy cold.
In in Yarraville, so if you want to pop over and have a look, shoot me a pm. Its still in the car at the moment, but will be coming out on the weekend.
Then I can't explain that.
Cheers for that. Knowing it draws 4A while running is more than I could gather from most of the ads on ebay. From that I can make a few calculations based on a 1/3 - 1/2 duty cycle.
For our use 80L really is massive, but they were the only ones I could find in dual zone. However I've now found this one:

65L is a more reasonable size and still a lot cheaper than any brand name one. I'll be back later with some calculations and post discussion with SWMBO.![]()
