Yes, that plastic ball can be replaced, it is however between the valve body halves, so goodness knows WHY he split the valve body to remove/ refit a kickdown cable...you only have to take it off as a unit, nothing falls out, and refit it. About an hour and a half job. There are also several OTHER restrictors and washers etc that also fall out if you split the valve body...
They are probably still on the floor
Theoretically, it should be OK, BUT there are other reasons for the problem, sprag broken, excessive clutch clearances, low line pressure etc etc.
I'd be careful about repairing it, PM me if you need to discuss further?
