Your 4 speed will have an integral transfer case, you will need the 5 speed box and its transfer case together. It should bolt to your motor the same. Don't know how many other differences there are.
I have a 77 classic 2 door 3.5 v8, with 4 speed manual, I would like to know if a 5 speed box can replace it direct to the motor i have or not.
would i need a different transfer also?
I dont know much about them.
would like to know. Phil

The 5spd will require a floor mod, its shift housing etc sits way higher. The clutch is fine spline instead of coarse, and the tailshafts should be OK, the crossmember can be changed for the later 1991 on round one to enable you to also toss those useless single outlet manifolds for the D1 and later RRC EFI manifolds and engine pipes.
It will be a good conversion, makes a nice vehicle nicer to drive.
Make sure you use a Disco trans, as the Defender one has the shifter in the wrong place, and the High range is 20% lower.

The Isuzu 110. Solid and as dependable as a rock, coming soon with auto box😊
The Range Rover L322 4.4.TTDV8 ....probably won't bother with the remap..😈
so a D1 v8 gearbox and transfer will attach to it ok? might have to look for one that is for wrecking, if thats the case, i want to keep the original motor and rebuild it, looking at the piper kits on ebay, dont know how good they are but seen them used in the Hayes manuals.
want to keep the rest of the car original.
Will get extractors made up for it when motor is done, will 200 tdi box and transfer fit ?

If you have the space, buying a whole wrecked v8 disco could be a better idea - because you are going to need a fair few bits to update. (And the leftovers you can sell or use). But it's got to be a v8 - the gearbox for any disco diesel is a bit different to any v8.
ok, might start looking for one
I would also go for the R380 gearbox out of the D1 updates and D2s - the later the gearbox the better. Earlier D1s and RR had the LT77 which is not as good a box - plus with this one you often get reverse when you go for first where on the R380 reverse is under 5th gear.
