There is a planetary drive in them but it's for input duties and also houses the internal oil pump.
Maybe it's time to split my spare down and inspect it before I give it a clean bill for use and turn it into a Good Oil tutorial..... Won't be till after I get back from holidays tho end of January.

    Cheers

    Andrew

    Hey guy's,
Are there any options for beefing up the BW box?
I'm doing a 351 conversion and I'm having clearance issues with the side of the intended trans using the LT230. A BW would fit nicely.

    Cheers,
    Pete.

I do not think BW problems are capacity problems, they are wear problems.
And the spread of ks from 200to 360 suggests that the problems of minced output and stretched chain are caused by lubricant breakdown.
This is probably caused by long intervals for oil changes.

The viscous coupling probs are often caused by different tyre sizes and/or lots of wheelspin.
Many V8 USA 4wds use Borg Warner transfers and I bet that many use a similar design to the RRC one. The biggest difference is that most US 4WDs have a central rear output, and probably why the output shaft is an immature design, as AFAIK its the only one.

    Thanks Phil,

Is there a torsen/screw type type diff available to replace the std. viscous coupling in these? Or a 300M output shaft? or is it stock stock stock for all parts?
Is a centre rear diff a do-able option to increase transfer options?

    Pete.

Re the Torsen I do not think so, although the best candidate would be Quaife. have a look at their site and maybe give them an email. But IMHO there is nothing wrong with a properly operating Viscous coupling.
Ironically there IS aQuaife available for an LT230 http://www.quaife.co.uk/catalogue/products/qdf30kt

I am not into axle swapping but I think it would be a big job. Some have fitted Nissan and Toyota,( see Outer Limits forum) but AFAIK you would have to change the whole rear suspension to Disco2 type with watts linkage, as the centre ball joint sits where the new diff would be, and sitting it on top of the diff would do strange things to the geometry.( or maybe OK with a large lift)

    Thanks Phil,

I've seen the Quaife job for the LT230. I think I'll stay with RR rear axle. Just been on the Quaife site and they only do them for the 230.

    Pete.
