speedo making squeaking / ticking / tapping sounds
My 1975 rangie makes quite loud and often irritating squeaks, ticks and other odd sounds all coming from the Speedo, they are repetative and become more common the faster i go. The needle on the speedo also kind of moves up and down in sync with the noises.
Has any body else experienced the noises or the moving Speedo needle?
And if so how did you fix it??

Biggest problem area on the speedo on early Rangies is the right-angle drive that connects the cable to the speedo itself. Stretching the memory way back to my first Rangie, but sounds familiar.

Mine does it when going over 80km or slower than 20km...
It's annoying, but I just put up with it..
Loud music.

MIne has been doing it for years and always worse on a cold morning.
I haven't bothered with a fix as it tends to go away when the car warms up.
My speedo also is eratic and I tend to rely on my tacho and gearing to determine my speed not to mention that the flourecent paint on the speedo needle has gone so at night I can't read the speedo anyway.
I will get around to fixing that..but ..there are always other things to fix

Ok good I thought I was the only one lazy enough to put up with it.
but yeh cold mornings are the worst and it goes away after a while, its more the passengers that are less patient with it.

Don't be confused, laziness has nothing to do with maintaining the unique characteristics of the old classic....its like the back tailgate won't open and the passenger window won't go down.....again unique characteristics that define its personality. How many others do you know that can state their car's speedo actually communicates to you that's its bloody cold early in the morning in Winter.... incredible engineering.

If it is a cable try this, if it is electronic, disregard my waffle!
Remove the cable, take the inner out, clean and oil both, reassemble and it will be all good again. It only squeaks and rattles because it is dry and the inner catches in the cable outer. Sooner or later it grabs and turns the inner into 2 pieces of spaghetti, then ya up for a new one!
Good luck.....
Cheers...........................Pete!
