Use a 1/2 inch ring spanner to undo the clamp bolt on the tensioner. Sometimes a very long extension bar and a wobble drive will get a 1/2 inch socket down there. And of course you have to take off the alternator, power steering and a/c belts first. To retension the belt use a shifter on the body of the tensioner, hold it and do up the clamp. Yes, its crude, the serpentine belt on the later models is much easier.

Bee utey the poms had some wack ideas hey, i got another question.
the two electric fans at the front of condensor are they just for the a/c? as one has siezed and the other spins fine. I dont use the a/c as one of the lines has a hole.
    Cheers.

I'm pretty certain they are just a/c fans but they do slightly aid cooling with the a/c switch on. Proper cooling fans are better though, like the EL Falcon ones some forumites have fitted.

    Hi there,

I'm having trouble with the tensioner. Why did they put the clamp tensioner bolt right up against the alternator pulley on the crank instead of the other side of it? I have about 2mm to work with. It's nearly touching the alternator belt. = not enough room for even a ring spanner. I tried to reverse the bolt but there is no thread on the other side of tensioner housing. It seems like I need a really low profile spanner to get in there.

    Any suggestions?

I just had a look at my spare motor. You should be able to get at the tensioner clamp bolt by either 1. putting more tension on the belt before you do up the clamp, or 2. buy a 10-15mm longer belt from your auto shop, and fit that instead. Check for clearance off the bottom hose but I think you'll be all right.

    Thanks bee utey!!!,

I'll give it another go, might try and get the wife to do up the bolt while I put more tension on the belt lol. If not I'll buy another belt a bit longer as you suggested. Helps to have 2 people sometimes. It's all ready to put back in the Rangie now. I was also thinking of bolting the extractors first before putting the motor in, but I'm not sure on clearances. So much easier working with the motor out. Although if I did that I might have troubles with other bolts.

    Cheers
