I installed defender 110 calipers to the front and back. The calipers run a larger pistons approx 45-46mm compared with the rangies approx 41-42mm. You only run one brake line to each caliper.
The difference is unreal. I can actually lock the wheels on dry tare now.

PS. if your rangie has stock wheels the old braking system should be fine. make sure the pad is fully contacting the brake rotor and wearing evenly acrossed the whole disc face.

    Hey Paul

How much were the callipers and was there much fiddling around to get them to fit or do they just bolt up? Did you have to get new brakelines made up?

If there was ever something you would need engineering approval for it would be this.

I got the later classic vented rotors and matching calipers all up for $230, after half an hour to fit them the difference is not just noticable but really amazing, especially with a heavy trailer. Its a very cheap and easy upgrade.

I ordered from Paddocks in the UK. I ordered front and rear 110 calipers, disco brake booster and disco master cylinder approx $350 -400 delivered.
You can stick with RR brake booster and master cylinder just buy the calipers.
The fronts will bolt straight up, I'm not sure about the rear as I have a 110 defender salisbury rear end. The front calipers only use one brake line. You can bend the existing brake lines to suit the new calipers. You also have to blank off one line that comes out of the valve block.

I did this conversion about 6 years ago. I went with vented rotors on the front but didn't change the rear brakes. These brakes should have been fitted from the factory.

It's not as simple as just asking for 110 calipers as some years used the same 41.3mm pistons as the RRC/Disco, as I found when looking at wrecker calipers. I ordered STC1266 and STC1267 calipers and sourced rotors locally. Here is the definitive list I compiled back when I ordered my own parts. This info has also been added into the good oil somewhere:

I would have used Dougal's solution, it's very clever, however I couldn't work out if the Def callipers would fit inside 15" rims.

In the end I went with DBA slotted front rotors, Mintex pads, Goodridge braided lines. Made a huge difference. Didn't worry about getting vented rotors.

Still need slotted rotors on the rear, locks the front and wears front tyres faster compared with before.

    +1 for finding that out?
