Search Boge Hydromat (It's real name) - that brings up the various topics on the web about the device, including prior posts from AULRO about a firm in Bris that may have experience with reco.

Then select images, and there are a few schematics to look at.

There used to be a bloke in Victoria who rebuilt them and worked through specialists like LRA and Graeme Cooper. I bought one but that was 20 years ago! So best bet is to call a specialist.
Not something to DIY as they have high pressure Nitrogen inside.
You can see a general Schematic on the ZF site and many similar units but in pairs were fitted to USA cars/SUVs. BMW motorcycles, and BMW 7series.

Second that - call Craig or Stuart at Graeme Coopers, or try TR Spares in SA for a second hand unit.
You can get new ones - Google NRC4163 - not cheap at about $800aus + shipping, although having said that it's all relative.. I just put two new front tyres on the wifes Audi TT at $900.00........and she goes through a set of those every 20,000 kms

Geez, do a decent search for it, including for "load leveller" - it'll save me from having to repost this stuff all of the time.

    1) Don't try and rebuild yourself.
    2) W.W. Shock Absorbers - Brisbane's original shock absorber reconditioners. 33 Matheson Street, Virginia, Queensland, Australia 4014 did mine for about $400 last year.
    3) Get some new balljoints too.

Davo. one trip down the Gibb River road and your new blue type (thicker shaft/longer shaft (the black is useless),black for 2 doors ,blue for 4 doors),will become as stuffed as the old one ! Only the 110 county defer type (extended1;s reservoir, biggey balljoints, will last but its hard to get right in a rrc chassis.Hence why they dropped them on D1's and later defers.

Well I don't think its that clear cut. I had one on a 2door in Saudi and it lasted a while on corrugations worse than the GRR, and cross country work making air quite a bit. It died at about 160KK AFAIR, and I bought a new one.
I have airbags and a 2 inch lift on my current RRC, and my Leveller has now done 210KK with no leaks and still working. If you don't ask too much they are fine. I have done GRR, Cape York, Tanami, Plenty, Strezlecki, Oodnadatta etc etc.
I can feel mine working out of whoop de doos as the spring rate increases on landing and the combination of airbags, heavier springs and load leveller works brilliantly to give a soft landing even after making air towing a trailer!!
I never run more than 10-12lbs in the airbags, as I want a progressive addition to the springs rather than ultra stiff springs.

I am pretty sure that they did not fit to D1 to reduce costs .

I agree that by themselves with stock springs and a big load they will die, but they still allow a much softer rear spring to be used which gives a great ride.

Yair, I know I'm naive but I have this wild fantasy that the Rover engineers had some vague idea of what they were doing, besides growing prize geraniums for the Chelsea Flower Show! But point taken.

The leveller I've got is a blue one from a 2-door, with a sticker from when it was rebuilt by WW Shocks, who rebuilt it for me this time around. We'll see how it goes though I do have a County one as well.

Philip, I had no idea you had the Full Monty on the back of yours. I might get some airbags as well.

the d1 and later 1991/2 on rrc share the same upper rear crossmember that is tubular and unable to support a load leveller.
my 1992 sherwood however has a steel square plate welded to the crossmember to mount a load leveller to, but nothing was ever attached to it...

Now this is pretty old recollection, But somewhere in my brain cells I recall that the 1992 Sherwood was primarily a "stripper" model made for the US market and had steel springs and no anti roll bars.

They may have also had a Load Leveller in the US spec but for Oz maybe deleted. Did your OZ Sherwood have air suspension?
AFAIR from last Saturday my 92 RRC has a tubular rear cross member and load leveller.
Range Rover 2doors and commercials were made right up to 95 and I think, though I don't know that they all had steel springs and load levellers.
I guess what I am trying to point out is that Disco never had a load leveller from 1979 intro,to delineate from RRC, and I believe as part of cost reduction, while RRC only had it deleted when air suspension was introduced, so I think the two issues are separate.
    Regards Philip A
