As long as the new engine number doesn’t come up as being flagged as stolen, can’t see it causing any problems for the buyer.

Engines get swapped all the time. Hard to find a classic with the original engine.

My last RRC also had a new D1 short engine fitted.

So it’s gone to a new home. The new owner flew into Melbourne last night and I picked him up and he finally had a first hand look at the car. Flight was late so it was after 9pm when he departed heading for the Newcastle area stopping overnight in Albury. First leg went ok and he arrived after 1am taking it easy but running well.

Today another few hundred KM up the road it was running at a very high idle and then refused to start after refilling the tank. He was 300KM from home at this stage and his Dad to the rescue bring down a trailer and parts. A new MAF installed it roared back to life and his Dad drove the remainder of the way home arriving safe and sound at a Land Rover loving household. It will get some much needed TLC and I hope the new owner may post some progress pics along the way.

Pretty happy it made a 1000KM journey under its own steam even though it encountered a few issues after sitting idle for over 4 years. I gave it a once over and a drive before he came down but you never know what to expect from a vehicle that’s been sitting for so long.

Sounds like there’s some bushes etc that need attention as do the brakes which I did tell him about but he’s up for the task - having owned D1’s and other Land Rovers.

All the best to a new and brighter future than I could provide. I have great fun over the years and now it’s past onto just the 4th owner in 38 years.

Apart from what I consider routine maintenance she ran well.

My father was ecstatic, I never told him the colour or showed him photos prior to him meeting me at Marulan.
It matches his original 1972 2 door that he sold not long after I was born and he couldn't be happier.

As discussed I'm now on the hunt for an l322 for my own stable and the classic will live on in the excellent hands of my father who is preparing it to tow his hybrid for a lap on retirement.

An image taken when I arrived home. You can see the sport with the unused trailer behind. A true 1103km trip under its own steam is a testament to its care in your ownership.
