The bottom pipe of the charcoal canister is supposed to be open. The connections at the top are: T = petrol tank, P = crankcase, and C = carburettors, though I'm guessing from the aircon pump in your photo that your engine is EFI. The canister is worth hooking up correctly as it's storage for petrol vapours which are then burnt by the engine.
Anyway, enjoy your Rangie and be prepared to learn a lot. I've had my Landie for two decades but my Rangie for the last two years and it's been a real education. Oh yeah.
