    Few issues....with pics

Right this is my first range rover so sorry if these are simple things -I'm learning!
Just picked the car up last night and I've got myself quite a list of things that need doing for the rwc some of which I know how to do and some bits Im not too sure on so would greatly appreciate any input people have.

    1. Speedo jumps up and down big time/mileage not going round either -broken cable? Or speedo itself dead you reckon?

    2. Auto selector push in button n the handle is stuck in the pressed in position so you can move the selector back and forth without pushing the button in. (it is very stiff though)

    3. This tank:

One pipe is blocked off and there is a outlet at the bottom that's just open and it dribbles down onto the inner wing. -what's meant to go on there?

    4. The rocker cover breather outlet on the passenger bank has some gauze cable tied over it...what pipe should go on there and where should it go to?

    5. Diffs and transfer box take 80w90?

    6. Auto tans just takes ATF?

    7. Engine is 20w50?

    8. Who's is the best classic wreckers in oz? As need a few bits such as door handles, handle surrounds, window regulator support piece, passenger window as the metal holding piece has rusted off.

    9. Tacho needle isn't illuminated like the other needles are- just a bulb?

    10. What's the largest tyres I can fit without a body or suspension lift?

Thanks for the help in advance

    Range rover

What year model is your Range Rover? It looks similar to an 87 3.5 efi I owned once. I'll have a go at some of your questions:

1./9. The speedo in that model was problematic on different occasions I had to replace the 90 degree cable connector on the back of the speedo and the whole speedo itself on another, the lights do fail but are relatively easy to replace but sometimes it is just the little fibre optic connector leading to the speedo/tacho needle that needs glueing back in place.

    3. The header tank should be a pressurised part of the cooling system, two hoses connected to the radiator, one from the top and one from the bottom. Not sure about the blocked one, are you referring to the coolant level sensor screwed in the top? No leaks!

8.Try TRS S.A. for spares, buy a manual which will answer most questions.
    Cheers

Are you referring to the emissions container with the three outlets, one with a blocked short stub hose? That looks right from my recollection of my RRC.

Or are you referring to the coolant reservoir in front of it?

Re the speedo, I had the problem where the plate at the back of the 90 deg. gear drive had moved out thus allowing the gears to go out of mesh. I cleaned it up. pushed it back in, and put some epoxy around it. That fixed it.

BTW, if you need an RR specialist in Albury, try Ivan (aka Grover on this forum) in Wodonga.

    4. The rocker cover breather outlet on the passenger bank has some gauze cable tied over it...what pipe should go on there and where should it go to?
Ther eshould be a plastic base that screws in and a foam filter and a "top hat" that clicks on. This is the air inlet for the crankcase ventilation.

    5. Diffs and transfer box take 80w90?
    Diffs 80/90, 90 , or 90/140 . I forget on transfer. Search for LT230 oil.

    6. Auto tans just takes ATF?
    Dexron whatever the latest.
    Engine oil 20/50
Depends how old and worn. I use 10/40 Valvoline or 15/40 in mine and it uses no more than 20/50 at 210KK.

    10. What's the largest tyres I can fit without a body or suspension lift?
245.75x16, and if you are going off road even then you should cut the rear flange from 12oclock to the back door 3 oclock and grind off the bolt at 12 oclock inside.

Thanks for the answers guys, with the tank I'm referring to the one behind the coolant reservoir. The bottom outlet from it is just an open pipe?

I don't know that particular item, but IMHO there should not be a bottom outlet.
It is the evaporative emission filter and collects the fuel vapours from the tank, which is the back top pipe.
The fumes are then sucked into the engine from the middle pipe.
It is filled with carbon granules and should be changed every ten years which AFAIK nobody in the world ever does.

The bottom pipe of the charcoal canister is supposed to be open. The connections at the top are: T = petrol tank, P = crankcase, and C = carburettors, though I'm guessing from the aircon pump in your photo that your engine is EFI. The canister is worth hooking up correctly as it's storage for petrol vapours which are then burnt by the engine.

Anyway, enjoy your Rangie and be prepared to learn a lot. I've had my Landie for two decades but my Rangie for the last two years and it's been a real education. Oh yeah.
At any given point in time, somewhere in the world someone is working on a Land-Rover.
