Smile 82 range rover filler neck

I have converted my 82 to a 3.9 lt injected motor,
Originally this car has lPG fitted where the fuel tank went, along with two sill tanks, I cobbled together a primer pump, swirl pot and injector pump. needless to say it has not been successful.
I made the decision to convert back to a late model rover tank with the necessairy pipes and vents for emission etc,
Problem: original rubber hose, filler neck and tank entry are slightly out of line. It will fit, but the connection flanges through the body are not quite square, given the angle of tank entry and filler neck. Ergo it leaks from the two flanges and rubber ring as it goes through the body.
Has any body got any suggestion that are; quick, cheap and easy.
    All sensible suggestions greatly appreciated

I would suggest finding an unleaded filler off an '86 - '88 or thereabouts, they have a tapered filler hose to fit the big tank inlet from a small diameter filler neck. There are some versions with a filler door that you could adapt too if needed. The hose has a good degree of flex in it.

I have just done the same thing on mine. The later model fill neck was a bit fiddly, so I ended up using the original fill neck, but rotated it 90 degrees - it has a slight bend in it, and if you point the bend towards the tank opening, you can join them with the original hose. Although I have only poured 20 litres into it for testing the engine so far, it didn't leak, and should work long term I would think.

    Cheers - Gav
