    MAF, Injectors & ing system

    Hi All,

    1. MAF - Since it controls fuel usage in some way - I would guess it talks to the ECU??? If thats true can anyone recommend a replacement ECU \ MAF setup that will be more stable then the stock setup?

    2. Injectors - Frmo the searching I did I read some Nissan or Holden injectors are good replacements... whats the best injector to use? For some reason I thought XR8 Ford???

    3. Ingition system - A while back I read about some changing to an electronic ingition system doing away with the Dizzy. Said system was also sealed, and I would guess it uses a sensor on the front or something for timing - does this system \ setup:

    a) Give better fuel usage
    b) Require piggyback ECU
    c) Require new ECU all together and also does away with MAF?

    Thanks in advance!!

    OK,

So some searching gave me some answers.. but not alot.

Which is easier \ better to use.. the Gems 8.2 ECU, get it chipped and put in the replace the stock one in the rangie - or get the Haltec one???

Still nothing confirmed on the injectors :/ someone please confirm?

MAF - yes some ecu setups will get rid of it - which ones?

Thor manifold - where can you buy one?

To add to this - the Thor manifold and the ECU work - can anyone recommend someone in Melbourne to do this work?
The guys at AMV haven't a clue what I am talking about :/

    Hi RaZz0R

I'm not sure on what you are trying to achieve from the above Q's ... Is it more power or more economy??

    The answers would be

Bosch GEN 3 19lbs injectors .... Look at the USA market ... A seller called midwestmustang sells them for $100 (for all 8) ... (Ford mustang yellow top injectors)

Just clean up the MAF .... Forget about the ideals of installing another ECU

Bosch amp conversion by bee utey

you are better off just checking the vacuum advance is working OK ... plus check for the slop of the timing chain ... if your ride is approaching 200.000k marker ... then it will be knackered

Considering the amount of doe in making conversions of ECU / manifolds +++ ... It will be better to just cut to the chase and install a LS1 motor ... Then your dollars will achieve what you are wanting >>> Economy and Grunt

    Some good reading >>> http://www.aulro.com/afvb/projects-t...ic-rangie.html

    Cheers

HI Mike Good to see you still around
Hope life is treating you well.

One thing that irks me about my rangie is how it can be in tune for a while and then its not and running rich.

well - that is what I think is happening - that or the air flow meter or something else is going out and causing high fuel usage like we all read so much about.

So for me - doing a long interstate trip to say... the Simpson desert and on to Alice spring becomes an issue - more in that I can't trust the fuel usage to stay the same. We can forget about the gas I think as I got my answers to that in the 10k thread I started.

These injectors sound sweet - I would also guess everything fits including the plug for them??

guide to cleaning the MAF?? (linky>?) because I would rather in the end know how to sort this out myself so if I am out bush and it goes out I can correct it. Same with the idle - both in park ad in drive when you come to a stop. I know the stepper motor can cause high RPM - and pulling it out and giving it a spray with WD40 to clean it up and a tap can sort that out. But the rest I got no idea on.

I think the motor was at about 120 or 130 when I got her and I have put about 50 ish tho on it so it might pay to check for slop in the timing gears \ chain.

Thanks for the link - this is something I had wondered about so I'll go do some reading.

As always - thank you for the post Mike!!

Life is good ..... well sorta .... Have a house reno that is taking it's toll

Link for a MAF clean .... My post in the thread is on page 1 ....
    http://www.aulro.com/afvb/discovery-...af-sensor.html

Link for the GEN 3 injectors .....
    http://www.aulro.com/afvb/classic-ra...r-results.html

Link for setting up a MAF and TPS
RPi Engineering - V8 Engines <<< Look at the section called >>> Setting Air Mass/Flow Meter & Throttle Pot

sounds as tho the motor is at 200 thou k's ..... Check the cam chain for slop .... Not hard to check and only takes 10 minutes to do ..... If the mechanic has know idea, or recons it's a big job to check >>> then change mechanics

The motor will pick up lost Horse Power from a tight cam chain and give the motor a chance for stable idle / fuel consumption ... Loose / sloppy cam chains retard the motor and makes ignition timing unstable.

Do a search on PhillpA ... He likes the GEN 2 injector and has travelled the path of ECU mods + installed the Thor manifold << recommended

Do a search on bee utey for the Bosh ignition module << recommended

BUT .... If you want to do a mod for TRUE fuel savings and HP .... Just spend the doe on a LS1 or 351W EFI ..... But make sure they are Auto box conversions ......

    Cheers

    Gen11 yellow fit without modification.

Gen111 yellow do not have a top clip groove so you have to add another o ring on the bottom a bit larger than the oring already there to stop them being forced out of the rail with fuel pressure. Plugs are plug and play.

if you want to ensure a lean mixture, add o2 sensors . The project is somewhere in Projects. the o2 sensors will adjust mixture in real time regardless of what settings are on the MAF and wear in injectors( within reason) and will keep doing it over their life. Mine are about 120KK old now and still going.
Also you have to ensure that your vacuum and centrifugal advance are working properly and add some advance to say 9degrees static. If you want to go further a Haltec or Unichip piggyback will take over vacuum advance function and you can then run a map with much more vacuum.

I like all of these options - much diff between the gen 3 and gen 2 injectors??

add o2 sensors huh?? for the stock ECU to use?? I'll go for a search on ya name and see what the dealyo is

I gots the LT230 in mine

Engine transplant ay... mmm, reading it. but I don't believe the 4.6 rover motor is all that bad - just the fueling I believe is that bad
