    SD33 into RRC

Has anyone used a SD33 (non turbo) into a RRC Ive found an engine for next to nothing with 195K on the clock and I thought I could do the swap and also maybe using the patrol gearbox???

There are a few posts on the turbo version engines but nothing really covering the conversion

... It appeals to my belief that Bad (engineering) behaviour should never be rewarded... The RRC's engine should never be fixed when it dies, always replaced with something more suitable. - Leaves a lot of room for choice, IMHO !

Would be an idea to have a thread dedicated to "foreign" engines in Classics...

There are reasons those engines go for next to nothing. Not worth the work.

The SD33 in my opinion is a good robust LT engine , I feel if you could turbo one it would be a ideal transplant for a classic

If you turbo one the robustness goes out the window. International Scouts used those engines.

Agreed. Maybe not exactly in the same league as the 3.9 Isuzu, but a good light truck engine indeed.

    The SD33T specs:

    3.245L
    Inline six
    107 PS (105 hp/78 kW) and 175 lb/ft (237 nm) of torque
    power peak at around 3,800rpm

So not a racing engine, but I reckon could easily take to some tweaking...........

personally I'd rather look at an Isuzu 4JB1T........

What did the 4JB1T come out of?

There are some isuzu engines to look at here too one being a 6BB1 the others I'm waiting to here from but from the pics they don't look like the 3.9 model

    The 4JB1 is as follows:

    • The 4JB1 is a 2.8 L (2,771 cc) 93 mm bore, 102 mm stroke direct injection diesel engine. It was used in the Isuzu Bighorn (Trooper), Mu (Rodeo), Wizard (LWB Rodeo), Rodeo Pickup and Holden Jackaroo sold in most world markets aside from North America until the early 1990s. Stock power was 87 PS (64 kW) in the 1989 Isuzu Trooper.Industrial versions of this motor were also sold in Isuzu light trucks.

The 4JB1-T is a turbocharged version of the 4JB1. It was intercooled in some applications. Power levels ranged between 100 and 115 PS (74 and 85 kW) depending on specifications

I have the SD33T engine in my 76 RRC along with the nissan 5 speed gear box and transfer .
It's been in for about 5 years now and was the best thing i ever did i tow my comp truck with it .
I also put nissan diff under it GQ front and MQ rear and run 37" tyres and still get about 13 per 100 with 4.6 gears

Can vouch for that. Your truck goes brilliant. Conversion looks hard though. Lots of firewall mods when you showed me it that time.
