Probably not.
What will you do to correct the gearing?
hi all
was looking at running 37s on a rangie without doing diff swaps or centre conversions. would something like ashcroft lockers + diff pegging + axles plus toughing the housing at the same time to the job?
it would be run in comps mainly
Probably not.
What will you do to correct the gearing?
I think by diff swaps and centre conversions he means patrol diffs and toy conversions.
I think a sals in the back and heavy duty pegged Ashcroft gear in the front will be fine.
If not the sals diff then same Ashcroft gear in the back should be OK if looked after.
pegged ashcroft centers with lockers and ratio change, with HD axles and ashcroft/ rovertracks CV setup should be ok.
thats my opinion, not from experience. FWIW i have wheeled 36's on F&R maxi's for the last 4 years. no issues, no breakages.
1986 Range Rover Hiline
2004 D2 TD5
yep thats what i meant by swaps. as for gearing that was the next step.
will be running 35s first then if need be step up to 37s. more asking now so i dont have to do a full swap then can just do it now. thanks for the replies
Yes generally, but for comps mainly I'd say no!
I rule!!!
2.4" of Pure FURY!!!
so what would be the better option for around the same money as upgrading the standard rangie diffs. toyo or patrol or as vern said sals rear
otherwise i could just stick with 35s
Well comps can put you in situations where you loose track of or the ability to allow some mechanical sympathy for your drive train.
The Toyota conversion will give you stronger front axle shafts and CVs, but IMHO the front third member is still weak.
In regards to diff swap, a Nissan front and Nissan, Toyo, or Sals rear will be stronger then the rover all round especially once you replace the Nissan CVs with after market.
But even then you will still find weak points when in competition.
Nothing is cheap if you want to compete with large tyres.
I don't intend on competing and even I am currently toying with the idea of upgrading my diffs to full custom housings and internals.
I like the idea of being able to wheel with mates for many years without worrying about breakage.

hey mate
yeah i hear ya i spoke to ashcroft and they said 35s are the biggest to keep the rovers reliable. i wouldnt mind doing a few comps but im not a flat out basher driver im more cruisey through things and push it when needed. let the car and the driver find the best line without just pointing and hoping for the best
I'm considering fitting pegged Ashcroft ATB's front and rear in my 88 Rangie. But a also need to upgrade to the 24 spline axles. It will be costly but I'd hope they would handle 35's no worries.
