??? How could it not be related to real life driving. I have done the equivalent plenty of times while towing up hills or driving into a very strong headwind.

Mmm, I have to agree. Towing a 2.5 tonne van up to mildura when a cold front is coming in is 5 hours of very heavy throttle, and thats traveling at 90-95.

It sounds like you've got a pearler of a td5, but I think in Australia we do put a very high price on reliability, and that comes from some parts being just so remote. If your out in the middle of Australia in March and you car breaks down, may God help you; and a lot of us have our families with us too (although not March, that's just ludricous).

What I said is that these cars dont have excessive smoke,
The videos you've put up show a completely unacceptable amount of smoke. I know it is very little smoke by Portugese tuner standards (where most seem to think smoke = power), but any smoke in a turbo diesel is a very very bad thing.

You need to use the smoke map (air/fuel calibration tables) in the way the makers intended. To limit the A/F ratios to safe and smoke free both on and off boost.

A rough guide on A/F ratios and smoke for diesels.

20-22:1 is where most stock engines are. Very safe EGT, no smoke.
18-19:1 is a good place for a tuned engine. Safe EGT, no smoke with good injection equipment.
17:1 is a hot tune. EGT getting high, smoke will depend on how good your injection equipment is.
16:1 is the smoke limit. At this point you will smoke no matter how good your injection equipment is. EGT is far beyond safe.
As you go even lower, EGT gets hotter and smoke gets even worse.

The videos Jose showed was smoke that would require 16:1 or richer.

The calculations I did for 500Nm of torque show approx 33psi is required at 18:1.

As I said before, we could be here forever and ever with different point of views and even a lot of numbers and calculations!
I prefer to let our work speak for itself...

Your work is speaking for itself, but not in a good way. I have already had people contact me concerned about smoke in your tuning.

If my opinion counts Jose from Td5inside knows what he is talking about and has the creds, There is no other Td5 tuner that gives the customer exactly what he is asking for and after sales back up the best I've ever known.

In my case I have standard Turbo , fitted Allisport intercooler . Air box mods , Exhaust - straight thru 2.75 with 3" hotdog and had a previous "Stage 1 tune"
on a long term round Aust caravan trip - towing full time unhappy having to drive by the EGT , easily going over 750 on hills . These are conditions far from what is 'normal' in Portugal.

Sent a nanocom log of my parameters to Jose and he wrote a specific map to suit my needs, 1st try had me over-boosting but fine tuned and now the EGT's max out at about 650 , in 5th , flat to the floor or up the longest Pacific highway hills at 110kph, with van in tow . ( No Black smoke at all, and the caravan is still white along the side to prove it)

Without the Van on the 110 goes like a rocket , (now that I have a new Ashcroft gearbox, apparently the old 5th didn't like all that power when towing) , Am also getting the best fuel economy I have ever known from any vehicle I've owned including 2wd's

Still upset about me not liking superchargers huh?

Smoke is a bad thing on all engines. It is the sign of a bad tune. It soots up oil, it carbons up turbos, it ****es off other motorists, it wastes fuel, it is a sign of dangerously high EGT and it covers anything you tow in soot.

    Do you claim otherwise?

    No

    No

I really am not fussed on what you like dis-like or other wise but as a paying member on this forum I find it inconsiderate of you to put down someone else's way of doing thing's.

When many have had nothing but good experiences, Did you bother to read in full?

    Just in-case

So yeah what ever floats your boat my main point stands.
