Whats wrong with the MT82? How is it worse than the R380? and why are some graphs ok but not others?
If you could get an hold of a 3.0 liter bmw engine, that would be an excelente choice. You could use automatic gearbox and transferbox from an L322 Range Rover. These engines are easily tunable, reliable and not so hard to deal with the electronics
This should be one of my next projects, to fit that in a 110 (we have already made that in to a P38 Range Rover that goes like a rocket)

MT82 is notchy to say the least, in fact I prefer My LT95...
.
The gearing is interesting with Puma Defenders, they use the 1.222:1 Disco transfer case instead of 1.410:1.
I was just thinking they would be a good donor engine for Early vehicles that require a 'modern' upgrade. Very easy to look after, and great on fuel and have decent torque output etc even in std format.
STILL, IMO there is no substitute for cubes, IE 2.4T vs 3.9T

The Isuzu 110. Solid and as dependable as a rock, coming soon with auto box😊
The Range Rover L322 4.4.TTDV8 ....probably won't bother with the remap..😈
Err, NO. I have one in at the moment with a trans fault, Common Problems and Fixes - Range Rover L322 - K Motors and another earlier on in the year.
Great engine, in fact I would say it is the BMW Diesel equivalent of a 2JZ Toyota 6BUT the trans lets it down...

all I hope is that ford ranger and mazda bravo sales go through the roof and in a few years we have a resonable supply of affordable 3.2s
The same goes for the ford territory. It'd only be just to steal as many 2.7s back as posdible.
They use the longer transfercase, because the gearbox has a very reduced ratio and that´s why you have power from lower gears, but not that much above 3200, 3500 rpm.
We have just tried the new ring and pinion... Results!!! The engine is really, really crap!! Now I understand why they use that gearbox and that reduced ratio. That´s the only why the engine seams to have some guts. But, if you really wanna make it go, you just can. I had pushed it a lot in terms of remap, turbo its hibrid, bigger intercooler and it simply wont go.
I mean...it does not go for the owner, who had a tunned td5 before.
Time for project....puma to td5![]()
sounds like we need Lara to do a production run of his 2.7lt components for the Td5
Or we could start crashing into ford rangers....
It was a 2.8 literAnd If I remember Lara had to spend a lot more money in to gearbox and halfshafts
To be honest, I think we can get power from a 2.5td5 more than enough for the rest of the car. Zero aerodinamics, drivetrain with weak axles, not so good brakes (defender) its not exactly something you want with hundreds os power
If you want to give more power to a car...fit it with a very good suspensionehhe
P.S. - Realy dont know if the 3.2 tdci can be the answer... All looks good on the paper, even on the road, but what about offroad?!!![]()
