    auto swap

    Hi all,

Will the ZF4 swap straight over with the 3 speed auto without modifying the trans tunnel? I have a spare auto and would like to change them over.

AFAIK you need the later trans tunnel from a ZF as well. It is bigger.

I though the early tunnels were bigger to fit the LT95 in there?

Only a guess here mind you, so happy to be wrong about it...

Or did the auto and manual versions have different tunnels?

    Which 3 speed auto?

We changed one rangie from Torqueflight/lt230 to ZF/lt230 without tunnel changes. From factory it was a VM deisel with lt77/lt230.

Dunno, but please post pics, especially of how you fit the shift lever in.

I may need to fit a ZF under my 85 body later on.

I have done this to mine - got the shifter lever to fit nicley but getting a console back on is another story. I've given up on a standard version and will be making one at some stage.

So you got the ZF shift lever into the alloy tunnel case, but the plastic console over was the problem?

If so, that's better than I expected and great news. Do you have any pics?

I can take some pics, as there is still no console or front passanger seat in it. I think I had to cut the alloy housing out a bit for it to sit in, and then just had to position it so the cable sat underneath the housing and bobs your uncle.

If I get home tonight before it's dark, I'll take some snaps.

It a 85 with the Torque flight 3 speed and I have a 4 speed zf from the 89. also have all the interior trim as well. was looking at the full auto and transfer case change out. I was looking at the location of the shifter hole and was not sure if its in the same spot.
