    Soft dash windscreen, alternatives ???

    Hi all,

I have a soft dash in the shed almost ready for blue slip. BUT it has a chipped windscreen, small (less than a two dollar coin) very far from the field of view.

I'm getting ready should the inspector say that the windscreen is a no-go.

Can a windscreen from a disco 1 be used ? and, what about using one from a hard dash ? is the rubber seal different ?

    Many thanks in advance.

IIRC early D1 screen is compatible, MA VIN 1994/5 Disco. Obviously a heated one will hurt

My softdash was fitted with a new one just prior to my purchasing it at $230 from memory in Toowomba (I thought that was an excellent price).

Thank you for the info. Do you know if they use the same seal ? I found a couple of old messages in UK forums stating that the classic uses some unique windshield/seal combination, not compatible with disco1... but they do not explain why.

    cheers,

    Carlos

That sounds great, I should have fix that the very first minute... but the car is currently unregistered, I can not drive it anywhere.

I will wait for the inspection, and then I will see which are the alternatives

I believe the EARLY D1 seal is the same, IE same MY. (1994/5)

Worth checking with a supplier for part number comparisons first though.

What about a mobile fitter? I believe there is one up your way as a neighbour was going to go up there on business (and get his D1 done as it was horizontally cracked side to side at the bottom) but got it done in Brookvale by a fitter who owed his son a favour. No idea how pricey though.

Yes, mobile fitter seems to be the way to go, I reckon.

Anyway: I will wait for the inspection, it is very small and it might be OK. I have been passing yearly inspections in Spain with much bigger chips in the defender :-)

Couldn't you get an unregistered vehicle permit?

    hi,

I have no idea... once I fix the oil leaks and have inspected for the blue slip I will start looking for ways to have it fixed (if they decide that it is a no-go)

    cheers,

    Carlos
