Are you copying me Cameron?![]()
Howdy folks.
I've got a bit of an opportunity to snag an RRC for myself, interested in a few opinions.
85 model so 3.5, with LT77.
250k on the clock.
Apparently it's fairly clean rust wise, paint is pretty tired but I can live with that.
Occasional and slight miss on the engine apparently, other than that not an awful lot I know about it.
Similar money to what Jezza paid, and judging by the pics I've seen this one appears to be in a bit better shape.
I'm not after a perfect vehicle, happy to have to work on it as it will probably live on a property carting me around while I hunt.
After some advice regarding things to look out for, good workshop manual, etc.
Cheers
Muppet.
P.S
Don't tell Brenno I'm interested in one, I'll never live it down![]()

I've got an 85 (BA chassis code) which has had a rough history.
Good points:
Both rear shocks point forward like all the later rangies.
Oil lubed wheel bearings.
LT230
Air conditioning controls have a thermostat (I can't overstate just how good this is).
Bad points:
That interior dash/console design was only used for one year. Get good at gluing plastic because if you break the hazard etc switches you won't be buying new ones.
The stereo is by the drivers knee.
Linkage for the handbrake rattles a lot.
The 3.5v8 (carby) and most of the LT77 fell out long before I got my one.
No William
Cheers Dougal.
Like I said, I'm not aiming to rock up to the red carpet in it so I can live with it if it's a bit rough.
Is it a relatively simple job to go from the 3.5 to 3.9?
I'd much prefer EFI to carbs but if the motor runs okay then that can wait.
If you want EFI, buy a Disco, except then you'd have two Disco's, and I just realised how pointless this post it...
I just read Gavs thread, looks a bit interesting but not too complex, apparently BigJon has one too so I'll have a dig for that.
The only rust issue it has is a tiny bit in the tailgate, which I understand is pretty common, and it's got a cracked diaphragm in the carby so that's at least a starting point.
Now where am I going to put it?![]()
RRC Muppet just isnt the same
"Why?"
and,
'Are you a closet Masochist?'
- Surely an old RR is'nt as good off-road as a (well-sorted) D2/td5....
Never mind having too much time & money, if you continue in this folly you'll soon have neither !![]()
You know you want one...
If the vehicle has been maintained well then you should get some more KM out of it yet. Mine survived well over 300KKM on the original LT77 without breaking it, but it was never used off road until I got it.
The 3.9 EFI conversion is straight forward and makes a big difference from a tired 3.5 carby version.
Rust in the tailgate is normal, even when they are garaged they still seem to rust there...
Go get it, stop procrastinating...![]()
