    Two Door Carpet. Anyone interested?

I've tried without success to date, to find the original type tunnel carpet as fitted to the 2 Door Rangies.

Mine is a 1975, I've taken a few pics and have a thread in the WTB column.

Then BigJon in SA took interest initially with his lovely new acquisition.
    Discojools too.

Does anyone know where this carpet might be found, taking into consideration that it needs to sit flat.

It is incredibly flexible as it isn't backed with any material, making it a woven carpet, rather than bonded. This is what gives it the flexibility, as well as nearly 40 years of age

Happy for any constructive comments and interest in trying to replicate a replacement.
First hand, personal experience or someone in the trade would be welcomed with open arms.

    Cheers,
    Richard

There is this stuff - Autex - Performer/Flex. But it would be unlikely to be available in that colour. Maybe you could get a lighter coloured sample and see if it could be dyed the or react colour?

You can get moulded carpets to suit the 2 door, but it won't quite look the same as it left the factory.

That looks the same colour as mine. It is still on my "to do" list to see the trimmer I usually use here in Adelaide.

Just found this - it is the spare wheel cover and the only bit left of the original interior of my 85. Looks to be a similar colour. All the carpet is long gone and was rotten due to a water leak on the windscreen. Just wondering what years this colour was used up to?

Not much help now, but someone was selling some good condition rear cargo area carpets this colour on ebay a while ago from an RRC - didn't get a single bid, but it had the correct colour name listed.

I'm guessing this is what it should all look like...

Looks good when new, but not so flash when all faded and rotten.

I looked at an '82 4 door a while ago and while i thought the colour was right, when I compared the two it was lighter.
Now if a bloke weren't too fussy, then that would work, though it is a lighter mustard shade than the camle tan or slightly darker in the 2 door.

Funny, both the '82 and and '83 I looked at both suffered from water ingress.
Rotted and faded the original, then there was the smell. Eew eee musky

    Cheers,
    Richard

Carpet in the first post is the same colour as what was in the '81 I bought for the body, etc.

The carpets in my '74 are paler, not sure if the passenger compartment ones are original but the spare wheel cover looks to be, and it matches.

Carpets??.."luxury"..when I were a lad we had to live in shoe-box with hole in bottom.
    No carpets there..
.....and NO carpets in the '72 Suffix A either just Palomino rubber mats.

So when you find the correct colour etc I will be interested ....and likewise I will keep a lookout too.

    Cheers

    Ok.......... hope this helps.

Closer inspection of all the '74 carpets incl. spare wheel cover reveals stray edges finished with blanket stitch.

Dunno if this would have been original. Pile is different from my experience of genuine '81 (like jack and bacicat's photos). Backing looks to be the same.

Driver's floor carpet has moulded in rubber mat.

    '75 has only tunnel carpet.
Vinyl mats for the front driver and passenger, a vinyl mat for the rear.

The first of the 4 doors had vinyl mats underneath with a cut out in the mat for the carpet ot grip the alloy sill cover. The rear mat only covered the horizontal surface the vertical surface was carpet in a 4 door.

    This isn't getting any easier.
TruFit Molded Carpets only have a molded type which does not include the gear shift and is one piece covering the entire front floor.

    Cheers,
    Richard
