    Wiring job...

So after trying to get the beast fired up last month with no success, I decided after a few to many ports to pull out the entire engine harness and start from scratch, I didn't think it was such a good idea the next morning but a bit late now...

I wanna do it as best as possible and as simple as possible, I've got all new components (alt, starter, etc) and a lumenition elecy ignition job, and a D2 fuse/relay box.

For now all I want is the thing to run, so I'm only replacing the harness in the engine bay (not under dash, As much as possible) later I will come back and slowly do the whole car.

I'm bypassing the auto inhibitor switch and I'm thinking about a push button start...

If anyone can think of anything else I could use to make it better that'd be great or and wires that need to be beefed up or earths that should have been there bit land rover forgot... Stuff like that.

    Cheers,

    Mitch

Lumenition module might be buggered, check the 'signal' (I think) wire, (getting a wiring diagram and check them all is a good bet, I found one on google images).

I had to convert my car back to points on the side of the road because of this.

    Cheers

I've re wired every inch of mine under the bonnet and included a **** load of relays for all the lights, etc as well as some hard to get to ones like the AC fan relay, etc.

Got a pic somewhere, I'll see if I can dredge it up.

    Hi,

Not sure what year you've got, but what worked really well for me was a whole loom out of a spare car.Heaps of good wire in the same gauge and colour
    .
That way I could replace all the wiring in the engine bay with the original colour codes which are pretty universal across all LR.

Every thing 'juicy' run through relays, even the horns. No probs after 100k kms.

    cheers, DL

And here is a link to the basic code:

Lucas wire colour codes for Land Rover

The rest of that site is pretty good too.

In that case you can do one for my LHD P38. That'll save me some time now, mate.
