    Fitting 35" tyres

    I've always wanted a Classic on 35".

Guard trimming aside, which is better 5" suspension or 3" suspension + 2" body lift. I'm not a fan of the body lift though.

Any advice on where to get 3" and 5" suspension lift kits?

    I think.....

Suspension lift only is better for clearance and travel, but its much harder and more expensive to set it up well so that it doesn't vibrate, it doesn't wander, it puts power down without pig-rooting and it handles.

Its probably easier and cheaper to setup a suspension + body lift. I thought the normal was 2+2 which is all off the shelf.

    Lifts

I've got 33" tires and it fits perfect with a 1.5" suspension lift and 2" body lift. I'd say 3" suspension and 2" body will get you where you need to be.

Keep in mind you will need -25mm offset rims as well to run the 35" tires (and 33"). So you will also need wheel arch flares, min 50mm each side. This will allow you to run 285X?X16 tires, not 305X?X16. If you want to run wider tires you will need the 75mm side wheel arches.

I wouldn't recommend the big suspension lift. You will need new radius arms with caster correction. (You will need caster correction anyway but you can get away with just the bushes and standard arms with 3" lift)

If you are really keen there are some good kits from the UK. 1 example is paddock spares. But there are many more.

Many of these type questions can be answered on the lra website. They even have kits if you want to spend that kind of money.

Thanks Jazzman, I've been on the LRA site. They have awesome classic projects. I also saw a kit on the APT site, but generally all 3" lift.

If you do decide you want to go a big lift. A friend of mine on this forum has a 5 or 6" suspension lift from a RRC he would probably like to get ride of. It is a comprehensive kit too. He used to run 35" or 36" tires.

If you are interested PM me and i'll send you his details.

That's a lot of lift for 33". Are you running extremely wide rubber?

I'm still trying to work out what the previous owner had fitted to my soft-dash 300tdi. Guards are chopped with flares, it had a 2.5" body lift and god knows what spring lift underneath.

    I'm running 305X70 16 Micky Thomson's ATZ. (33" X 11.5" i think)

I have no tire scrub when turning full lock or full articulation.

I'd say he was running something larger than 33". Although LRA only did a 2.5" body lift for a while. Now it is 2". You might find that it is 2.5" because it was available. The flares are possibly LRA too.

    Sounds like an awesome truck!

So you've got heaps of clearance.

My 300Tdi is a beaten truck. Only parts left of the body lift was the radiator supports, bumper brackets and transfer extension. Has disco springs and wheels with all corners taken a hiding and engine needs a new head. Good flares were taken and ugly rubber ones left.

But it will live again as my next work vehicle.

Is it engineered? If it was engineered with the body lift and the work that was done, it would be worth a bit still.

Is this the white one on the trailer being towed by the other white one, next to the white one parked under a tree in a photo i've seen on this forum somewhere?

Yes that's the one. This is in New Zealand so not engineered in the Australian sense. But would have gone through 6 monthly safety inspections. Technically it should have been certified for the increase in tyre size but in practise they pick on the ricers and leave diesel 4wds alone.

Shown there with the body lift almost all removed and V8 disco springs/shocks fitted.
