Phil,
Thanks for the info, & if the tailgate does pop open I will consider such a modification, but so far all is good & I will try to keep it as standard as possible. I was just glad to be rid of the broom handle, not cool.
Hi Gasman,
Apologies be he is not for sale just now, having too much fun fixing stuff. Now that the shockies have finally been replaced - took me a couple of days then a 7 day recovery period in Bali. I think the cold had seeped in through the floor crawler. The ride is now fantastic.![]()

Hi Guy,
I tracked down a pair of seat base covers from Famous Four in the UK. They are fibreglass replicas & a little thicker than the original plastic covers, hence the slots at front & back of the seat base have to be opened up a little:
Still going with the cutting & polishing, but getting there:
Took the old Franklin Premier caravan for a spin a couple of days ago before passing onto our niece who has gone north with it for a holiday. Slowly clearing out the shed!

Very nice. Has to one of the better 2 doors getting around. The interior looks to be in very original condition.
If I ever get mine back to a similar condition I will be cheering.
Where are you located Avion? Would love to take some photos of the ol' rangie if you wouldn't mind![]()
Happens to be my favourite car and i would love to get some prints made up for the shed!
Likewise!
Discojools.
By the way how much was the freight on the seat base covers from Famous Four? I got a quote on a seat diaphragm and it was nearly as much as the part! Will be waiting till I have a bigger order.
My Old Red 2 door has rebuilt engine, now waiting to be painted.
Hi Dizza, I'm only about 4000kms away in WA - Bakers Hill to be precise. If you want any photo's I would be happy to email them to you or you could save any you want off this thread. It is becoming my favourite car as well, they really do drive nicely. New tyres on the way this week as the old Michelin X M&S are a little tired in the sidewalls.
Cheers Nigel
Hi Discojools, Yes the freight is a bit of an embarrassment. The parts including a new owners manual was 65GBP & the postage was as much again plus an admin charge. But what to do, as I could not find any seat bases in Australia. Anyway I'm happy with the results & the whole lot came to $254 thru Paypal.
Mine has nearly done 42,000kms since new so hopefully the engine will last a little longer.
I managed to find some new tyres for the old Rangie. The old Michelin X M&S had plenty of tread left, but most were cracked in the sidewalls. In the end I went with Dunlop Road Gripper S - could not find many 205R16 tyres in WA!
The old rusty wheels with tired Michelins.
New Dunlops on tarted up Rostyles. Last set of Rostyles I painted was for my then MGBGT back in the early 70's.
Comparison of the Michelin & Dunlop treads.
Absolute crying shame.. My spare Michelin is virtually untouched.. lived all it's life on a steel rim, inside the car. Always wanted a set of them, just to go back to 'authentic'
At first glance, classic BFG A/T has a similar style of tread pattern. Maybe that's what gives it the all-round performance...
Puns not intended...

Edit:- There are some Chinese 205R16 available in WA... seen them in a warehouse recently. Nankang, from memory...
