Excessive piston slap, oil pans which allowed significant oil surge under acceleration thereby starving big eng bearings ... other than that.. it did a reasonable job in a Commodore. On a long interstate trip it was a great motor...
As regards the competition... the quad cam V8 in the early Lexus for example, was light years ahead of the LS1...
MY99 RR P38 HSE 4.6 (Thor) gone (to Tasmania)
    2020 Subaru Impreza S ('SWMBO's Express' )
    2023 Ineos Grenadier Trialmaster (diesel)

Please keep it civil and try not to lash out. I see you have had previous form.

There are several vehicles on (or were on) this forum with the LS1. The best I saw was a P38. It was very nice.

It might have twin turbo's, but it sounds great.

excuse my enthusiasm for the ls motors, i recently bought a 2000 vx commodore wagon, obviously with a ls1 , and after 3 months of driving it i still cant get over how good these motors are, extremely powerful, smooth , very mild manners, but put the boot in and it turns into an animal, anyway i probably should not have even posted this on this forum, just that i do have a range rover and thought it might be ok, apologies to the forum, ls1-2-3 ftw

It's not your enthusiasm for the motors I am questioning, it's the attempts to get people off side I take issue with.
Much like where your gearbox thread went.

an ls3 is not the same as an ls1.

Get a grip, this post didn't kill anyone. I've seen more drivel in the general chat section than what has been posted here.

still not worth anwering, for your information i have studied the ls1 for 3 months on the internet, its history, development, gm assinged its top engineers to come up with something incredibly good and that they have done, the gm boardroom gave a standing ovation to its head engineers preliminary report, something they dont normally do, i have huge respect for gm, fascinating stuff to read,
