    89 Vogue SE problems D:

    Hello all,

First post, hope this is in the right section, I'm doing this on my phone so I haven't had a look if this has been asked before so here goes:

I recently bought an 89 Vogue SE, 3.5l, was running a bit rough but at least it was running until the other day, we changed the distributor cap for a new Bearmach one and swapped out the rotor arm as well.

Once it was all back together I tried to fire her up and it wouldn't start and ultimately blew the intake pipe off the top of the motor, we've been stuffing around for a few days trying to get it going again with no success,

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

Swap old cap and rotor back on. Genuine Lucas seems to be the best for these.

Was the old rotor stuck on? Didn't damage something with its removal?

Plug leads in the correct position?

    Plug and plug lead condition?

Electrical wires still attached to distributor?

Search for Bee Utey's Bosch BIM024 ignition module swap. They seem much less fussy about ignition components after doing this.

Betcha you've pulled up the rotor button without holding down the rotating guts. Common V8 problem!!! How to fix:

And if you get that far, module replacement:

Someone suggested on here many years ago to just break the old rotor by squeezing it with a pair of multigrips.

I have always done that and never had a problem.

Oh and always use original Lucas rotor even though it costs twice the cheapies.

That even applies to MGBs. Friend had one and wouldn't go. He had an aftermarket rotor that looked perfect but didn't work. Lucas one put in and away it went.
