    Additional gauges / pods.... pics?

    Hi guys,

I'm looking to install some ancillary gauges in my 91 RRC and I have seen quite a few different gauge pods, but nothing that really looks nice on the hard dash.
I've also seen gauges fitted in the centre bevelled face, and while I don't particularly mind that, I would rather not destroy my dash by cutting large holes in it for 52mm gauges.

I'd like to install about 4 gauges for temps and so on, and an AFR / and combined ammeter/voltmeter or similar.

I'd really like to keep the theme stock looking, and looking for green illumination (can do this with some vdo gauges but not all), but I stumbled on the US instrument cluster sites, and found that there is a possible solution with a VFD from dakota digital, which may fit the existing instrument binnacle.

Now, i'm really in two minds, and would simply like a nice pod to match the hard dash, which for all intents & purposes provides the needful, however these aftermarket instruments don't really look like a bad idea.

Since my Tacho is not functioning correctly with the denso alternators W terminal, I would really like to have a full swathe of accurate instruments, unlike that dodgy temp needle that tells nothing and a fuel gauge that is reasonably accurate but not very .... impressive, I guess is the word.

I've toyed with ideas of butchering the cluster with manual round gauges and the like, but end up back where I started, looking at holes in the dash bevel.

If anyone has pics of a well executed dash or additional instruments could they please point me in the right direction or upload a pic? the 3 & 4 gauge pods that sit on the top of the dash seem to only be black and all look like an ugly box dropped on the top. I'd like a little more integration and form....

Am I asking too much? probably. But it would be nice if the aftermarket didn't just provide generic 'sh**' to ruin a nice functional interior.

help appreciated.... even if you want to tell me I'm bonkers.

Have you thought of buying a dash top from an earlier model that has the four holes in it from standard. That way if you don't like it you can just change it back.

I think this would look a lot nicer than a pod stuck on top of the dash.

I have no solution to the instrument cluster problem, it depends on whether you want a standard or custom look.

There are a number of threads on this forum about that subject, e.g.,

    Gauge Locations for 93 classic.

Use Google search at the bottom of this page.

Yeah I've already been through all the google results for threads & posts on the board here as well, but nothing specific and no pics. One thread was nearly 10 years old and naturally no pics remain in the users post... can't be helped.

Cutting into that bevel I think is the last resort... unless I can find an old dash to hack apart and plastic weld a pod or something.
