The one under the coil looks like an aluminium rectangular box maybe an inch high , which i suppose could be mistaken as a mount for the coil .

The dissy mounted one is on the side near the power steering pump it will have a small loom going to it and is maybe 1/2inch wide and black in colour it is much smaller than the undercoil one .

Fix it, it's a mechanical device. The most common problem is when someone yanks off the rotor button and dislodges the advance springs. Procedure detailed here:

I would if I knew how to, even with the instructions.

The thing is she was running fine, just died after I gave the throttle a bit of a goose to 4000rpm then let go, I wasn't hammering it or holding it at a high rpm or anything.

Now one thing I noticed yesterday- when I sucked on the vac line that goes to the mechanical advance/retard nothing happened- I thought that the metal rod inside the dizzy was supposed to move?

If you can use a Drill, and a spanner, then you can rebuild the dizzy yourself.

It's not expensive. It IS straightforward and simple.

If you really don't think you can rebuild it yourself, but are in Melbourne eastern suburbs take the dissy to Scorcher in Norcal Rd Nunawading. They do good work. (I run one of their upgraded distributors on my D1) I have a 3.5 motor in the shed which I think has a distributor on it - not sure which type. You are welcome to borrow it if it is the right one.

    Hi guys....
Gav dropped around a 85 dizzy (SU variant) and we fitted it while is was bucketing down with rain.

My mechanic dude did have to switch the 2 pin connectors to make them match but at least it wasn't the 4-pin one.

Anyways, hats off to Gav- I now have a working RRC again - yippee!!!

Now I can go give the Arabs lots of money for petrol haha

The plugs are really black so it's definitely running rich, so that will be the next thing to look at.

    Again, thanks for everyones help

    Cheers
    Dave
